the sad tale of Liz Cheney and what she will do to get votes

davesdatahut: Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick Cheney, is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Wyoming. She has proclaimed her opposition to same-sex marriage, which goes over well in a conservative state like Wyoming. Her sister, Mary, meanwhile, is gay and is in a same-sex marriage.
Yes, Liz Cheney is publicly declaring she opposes the way her sister lives as she appeals for votes. This begs the question of how Liz Cheney sleeps at night.
Those Cheney family gatherings ought to be a whole lotta fun this year.

Liz Cheney believes in traditional marriage as I do. Yet, just like Liz Cheney, if two gay individuals want to be together and married, doesn't bother me. However, I do draw the line with polygamists. They should not have any rights what so ever.

davesdatahut: What I can't understand is how Liz Cheney, who has a gay, married sister, can publicly campaign against gay marriage. She is doing this, after apparently being fine with her sister's relationship for some number of years. What is she thinking? The selfishness of it is stunning. And she appears to have little concern to what this will do to her family relationships. So much for all that 'family values' bullshit. It's more a case of the faith-based bigotry that lurks like a stench behind social conservatism.

davesdatahut: David, I saw your post, yes. I was just following up to what you were saying - that you believe in traditional marriage but would not stand in the way of gay marriage. My personal view is that laws against gay marriage are blatantly unconstitutional. The legal argument aside, it is astounding that Liz Cheney is advocating for such laws, given her family situation.

Wild__: Perhaps she has her own beliefs despite her sister's situation.

The civil rights movement took time and I believe gay marriage will become legal eventually.

davesdatahut: Perhaps she does....but in this case....don't make an issue of it. It makes you look EVIL.

Wild__: Oh please... Some people actually think for themselves rather absorbing the medias propaganda.

She has a right to her opinions and beliefs, even if her sister disagrees.

davesdatahut: She appears to be thinking about herself, as opposed to for herself. Just let this issue ride, given the situation. It makes her look like shit, her opinions notwithstanding. Plus, by all accounts, she welcomed her sister and her partner. And now she comes out against it. Yeh, she looks like shit.

Wild__: That's your opinion and you are entitled to that.

Personally, if my sister was gay I would love her and accept her while remaining opposed to marriage.

davesdatahut: Which is fine. But to first embrace, and then to make a very public show of the opposite, smacks of rank opportunism, not to mention downright nasty to your family.
