But so does every corner of the globe. What is important isn't the past, that is unalterable, but the future. In Europe and the West people have made efforts to create a more enlightened world. It may be a work in progress but it has brought immense benefits already. Yet that progress is now being threatened by a newly emboldened, backward looking, Islam.
