Zanjan: Ghost, on Mars I imagine they'll conduct a lot of scientific tests - it's not likely they'll run out of tests for eons. Other than that, the only other thing they could do is mining or digging pits to store the space garbage that's orbiting earth.

freedomfirst1797: If Mars was made of solid gold, it still wouldn't pay to mine it and bring it back here. Unless of course, you found some way to drastically reduce the cost of transporting things 245 million miles.

But let us imagine you could. What happens to the price of gold once it becomes plentiful?

ghostgeek: Anyway, back to something approaching the topic of this thread:

At least 100 worshippers have been killed or injured in a suicide bombing that targeted a packed Shia mosque in Afghanistan during Friday prayers.

Responsibility for the blast, which took place in Kunduz, the capital of the province of the same name in the north-east of the country, was claimed by the Islamic State’s local affiliate, Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), which has a long history of attacking Afghanistan’s Shia minority, who make up about 15-20% of the population.

Graphic but unverified images posted on social media showed horrific scenes inside the Gozar-e-Sayed Abad mosque, with bloodied bodies and body parts flung across the inside of the building by the explosion. Other images showed a pall of smoke rising from the mosque.

The attack was the most deadly in the country since a suicide bombing – also claimed by ISKP – at Kabul airport during the US-led withdrawal, which killed 13 US servicemen and 169 Afghans. Photos and video from the scene in Kunduz showed rescuers carrying a body wrapped in a blanket from the mosque to an ambulance.

ghostgeek: KABUL: At least five civilians were killed in a bomb blast at the entrance to a Kabul mosque Sunday, a Taliban official said, describing the deadliest attack in the Afghan capital since US forces left at the end of August.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but suspicion fell on Daesh extremists who have stepped up attacks on the Taliban in recent weeks, particularly in the Daesh stronghold in eastern Afghanistan.

An apparent roadside bomb went off at the gate of the sprawling Eidgah Mosque in Kabul at a time when a memorial service was being held for the mother of Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid. Qari Saeed Khosti confirmed the deaths.

ghostgeek: Since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in mid-August, attacks by Daesh group militants against them have increased. The rise has raised the possibility of a wider conflict between the two extremist groups.

Daesh maintains a strong presence in the eastern province of Nangarhar and considers the Taliban an enemy. Daesh has claimed several attacks against the Taliban, including several killings in the provincial capital of Jalalabad.

ghostgeek: Attacks in Kabul have so far been rare, but in recent weeks Daesh has shown signs it is expanding its footprint beyond the east and closer toward the capital.

On Friday, Taliban fighters raided a Daesh hideout just north of Kabul in Parwan province. The raid came after a Daesh roadside bomb wounded four Taliban fighters in the area.

freedomfirst1797: Muslims have been gleefully slaughtering each other since long before the USA ever existed. In fact, it all started sometime around 700 AD and it continues to this day. Whenever a religion is based on extremism, bad things happen. And it has happened with all religions. The difference is that Islam is the ONLY major religion that hasn't had a reformation or some sort. They are still stuck in the 7th Century.....

Muslims have their faults but those who are throwing up stones here isn’t in much a position to do so.

You have that fella with the US flag, we all know the amount of civilian lives they’ve taken from their beginnings. Agent Orange and the list goes on on the slaughter but everything is fine when you have uniforms on.
You have a UK fella, we all know the exploitation that little space have been up to.
Then you have myself, a meat-eater who have not recycled his plastics in years.

Get over yourselves.

Adam Southworth
Adam Southworth: Islam is different from most living religions. The teachings are different. Mohammad was not Jesus, Buddha, Mahavira, Lao Tzu, Zoroaster or Guru Nanak.

Commands to kill non-Muslims
A place not ruled by Islam is "dar al-harb" (the house of war)
An Islamic theocracy is the ideal form of government
Sharia (Islamic law) should replace other legal systems
Commands to kill homosexuals, Jews, polytheists, blasphemers, adulterers and fornicators
Death in battle with non-Muslims is the path to paradise, and the prospect of such a death is all that would tempt a martyr in paradise to return to Earth
Women are of less value than men
Women are subordinate to men
Women inherit half that of men
Husbands have the right to beat wives they suspect of disobedience
A Muslim man may take four wives, while a Muslim woman may take one husband
A Muslim man has the right to take concubines (sex-slaves) from other groups
The Islamic prophet Mohammad, a war-criminal who beheaded prisoners and consummated a marriage with a nine year old girl, among other misdeeds, is the paragon of men.
Muslim men have the right to marry children

These ideas are not taught or followed by all religions. Not every religion can boast ~ 45% open sympathy or support (who knows the true fraction) for terrorist attacks among members. Other polls conducted by reputed pollsters like Ipsos and Pew Research bear on most of these tenets. There are therefore reasons for those who believe in freedom, the rule of law, the rights of women, homosexuals, Jews and non-Muslims as a whole to oppose not just the beliefs (which have no power in themselves) but the vehicle which harbours them.

Sounds like something fundamental Christians will dream of having.

Funnily, all on that list (cept the paradise bit) is already Western.

Domestic violence.
Wars.
Persecution of homosexuals.
Degrading of women & sexism.
Pedophilia (even have open organisations promoting this)
Sex slavery & human trafficking.

Who taught this if it is in western societies also?

1.6% of rape allegations in England and Wales result in someone being charged.

To a victim, I wonder if it will be comforting to hear, ‘could’ve been worse you could’ve been a muslim and the abuser too’.

There is a sickness and it definitely doesn’t adhere to a religion.

freedomfirst1797: The fact that those abuses exist everywhere to some degree doesn't justify Muslims making them normal and acceptable in their own societies.

In the west all those things are serious crimes. In Islamic nations they are accepted norms. Who did it first is irrelevant. You have to be brain dead to not see a serious problem with the Islamic abuse of women, children and minorities. You cannot spin it as "normal" because someone else did it to 500 years ago....

It does not justify anything.

It does however shows that it is within OUR societies and done by OUR kind.

And this is not to ‘some degree’ but to a rampant and growing degree.

How can you point over to the muslims when your very own country has an open organisation that promote pedophilia and press for legislation to protect pedophilia. [see NAMBLA].

You have to be brain dead as shit to not see what your own countrymen are doing. This is modern times. Domestic violence is not an abnormal situation, it is very common with us in the West, with a low amount of these ‘fellowmen’ being charged.

You get a free pass to point and say ‘look at the muslims’ while doing nothing about the shit we have in our society here.

And you seem ignorant on Islamic nations, they have differences. Example Bahrain has a different set of laws than Afghanistan. Although I bet in your innocence they are all the same.

Tell me how women are not viewed as lesser when they had a whole ‘me too’ movement about it. When the list of women found raped and dead increases. Who is doing all this? And why your energy is on places you clearly are ignorant about vs on the country and issues that you can help fix.

How is this not serious? The ‘we have laws’ rhetorics. Laws are not enough when it’s deep in the mentality. When they are not even enforced. And when our women don’t even feel secured.

The women in the West are saying ‘all men rapists’, because they don’t experience that security. It is a norm for them. But aye, let’s point at the muslims and feel better on ourselves.

Just a case of Europeans can’t get along with each other or a mentality stuck in the 7th century? Or maybe some gleeful slaughter?

So stupid. That pompous superior colonial complex is alive and well.
