Sir Loin: Maybe it is mean but I read in a psych journal my wife had for school that right wing adults (republican voters) have more neurons firing in their primitive lizard brain than they do in the left frontal lobe which controls logical thought.

Sir Loin: NZ could be considered "flooded with guns" hunting is the most popular sport here and about half the homes contain at least one firearm yet gun violence is almost unknown. It's not about gun control but self control

ghostgeek: In the U.S. it seems rifles were used in about 4% of murders in 2017 and handguns in about 64% of such cases. This would suggest that it isn't hunters and their rifles that are the threat.

zeffur: If people could murder other people by clicking their fingers--the leading cause of murder would be finger clicking. Fingers & guns are useless without the human intent to murder. That's the source of the problem--fix that & no one will murder anyone else. Don't fix it & people will continue to murder. Take away firearms from law abiding citizens & you only create an unfair advantage for bad people who will use firearms--regardless of any law/s.

Sir Loin: That's what I've been saying Zeff. It's not about gun control but all about self control

zeffur: There needs to be more done about mental problems that cause some people to mass murder others--that & reducing gang & drug related murders. Tackling those areas effectively while not impacting sane law abiding citizens is what should be done---not disarming everyone.

Sir Loin: 100$% agree with you Zeff.
Here we have pretty stringent psych evaluations before gaining a firearms licence which must be produced whenever buying a gun or ammunition, also shown on demand to police when in possession of a gun. Firearms also need to be stored securely in a locked container fastened to the house framing. My gun safe has 7mm thick steel casing and a dirty great lock.

Fog Swept Glade: I've never seen a gun used defensively or a good samaritans. I favor gun rights, not over embellished fairy tales. I've seen plenty of people pad court cases with tactical noun use and still no defense. A gun is a noun. Guns enable violence, sport, and recreation.
