You are right about not feeling the first impact of a bullet. Knew a Guy one time who was shot in the leg, he never even knew he had been shot. It was hours later he began feeling the pain from the bullet which was lodged in his leg. Another Guy who took a bad neck injury with major blood loss went into shock straight away. He was not in pain but just began falling into a coma 'I feel sleepy' is all he said, then died. It all comes down to adrenaline.
