A Jewish supermarket in New Jersey was the target of a gun attack which left six people dead including two suspected assailants, say officials.

No motive has been confirmed, but the mayor of Jersey City tweeted that "hate and anti-Semitism" had no place in the city.

The suspects are believed to have killed a detective across town, then driven a rental van to the store.

Security video shows them firing on the market before going inside.

Investigators believe that the three people found dead inside the kosher market were killed by the attackers, who were also found dead inside the building following a four-hour standoff with police on Tuesday.

Wild__: Ah yes, ghostgeek needs a reminder of how many times the armed citizen is forced to defend themselves...

An armed citizen in Spartanburg, S.C., reportedly shot a man threatening him with a piece of lumber outside a home-improvement store about 3 p.m. Aug. 18. News reports say the two men, who knew each other, began arguing in the store, but the armed citizen disengaged and tried to avoid the other man. The suspect went out to the parking lot, retrieved a 4-foot piece of lumber from his vehicle and awaited the other man. He then followed the armed citizen to his vehicle and threatened him with the lumber. The assailant ignored the man’s order to back away and continued to advance until the armed citizen was forced to shoot. The suspect died shortly afterward. Police said the shooter acted in self-defense and will not be charged. (FOX Carolina News, Greenville, S.C., 8/19/2019)

An attempt to rob a restaurant in north Nashville one night was thwarted by an armed employee. When a robber wearing all black entered the establishment armed with a firearm, demanding money, employees worked together to neutralize the threat. While one employee dealt with the intruder, a co-worker saw an opportunity to retrieve a pistol carried by another employee, who had his hands up. The 58-year-old then opened fire on the robber, who fled the scene and later died of his injuries on the doorstep of his apartment. (Nashville Tennessean, Nashville, Tenn. , 8/2/19)

A 62-year-old hearing-impaired woman reportedly shot a 31-year-old male intruder in her home around 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in LeFlore County, Okla. According to the LeFlore County sheriff, the woman saw the stranger in her home and yelled at him to leave, but he did not comply. She retrieved her rifle and again ordered him to leave. When the man advanced toward her, she fired one round at his chest. The man, who police say had a lengthy criminal history, was pronounced dead at the scene. (LeFlore County Sheriff, Poteau, Okla., 9/24/2019)

A 70-year-old West Virginia woman defended her home with a .22-cal. rifle early one Monday morning. Upon awaking to the sound of glass breaking, the woman grabbed her trusty .22 and went to investigate. She found a man trying to gain entry into her home, at which point she shot him, prompting him to flee. When police arrived, they found the suspect lying in the yard with a gunshot wound. (daytondailynews.com, Hillsboro, West Va, 2/5/19)

A MetroPCS employee shot and killed an alleged robber around 4 p.m. Aug. 26 in Philadelphia, Pa. Surveillance video showed the would-be robber pull a gun from the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt and turn toward the clerk just before the employee shot him. The employee, who is reportedly a concealed-carry holder and Marine reservist, was the only person in the store when the suspect entered. The district attorney’s office concurred with police that the shooting was in self-defense. (6ABC, Philadelphia, Pa., 8/29/2019; WCAU NBC 10, Philadelphia, Pa., 8/26/2019)

A knife-wielding robber at a Coshocton County McDonald's was stopped by a patron with a firearm. When the attempted robber began to menace customers and staff, a 70-year old from Kentucky drew his concealed sidearm, and ordered the man to drop his knife. When he refused to comply and began to leave, the armed citizen followed him outside, where he was able to convince him to drop the knife. (nbc4i.com, Coshocton County, Ohio, 9/3/19)

Pregnant Florida woman uses AR-15 to fatally shoot armed intruder.

Two armed men broke into the house and pistol whipped husband, before wife pulled out their legally possessed weapon and opened fire.

A home invasion in Florida turned deadly for one of the intruders when a pregnant homeowner reportedly fatally shot him with an AR-15.

An official with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said at a press conference that two men forced entry into a home in Lithia last Wednesday night and “made demands” of the man and woman who lived there. They then started beating the male homeowner, Maj. Frank Losat said.

Not really. Most armed people aren't looking to risk their life--that's what they pay taxes for--so the police can take that risk. I'd only use my weapon if it was necessary--there is always a risk in any gun encounter--I'd let the police take care of all incidents except those that risked my (or someone I care about) life--the rest the police can risk their life on, imo.
