theHating: A record 137.5 million Americans voted in the 2016 presidential election, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Overall voter turnout – defined as the share of adult U.S. citizens who cast ballots – was 61.4% in 2016, a share similar to 2012 but below the 63.6% who say they voted in 2008.

theHating: The liberal test: how to tell if you are on the spectrum of liberal ideology

1: do you believe in the necessity of broadening one's knowledge?

2: do you believe in the necessity for accepting new solutions for problems?

Trump supports both principles of liberalism. The other thing trump does is consistently walk his liberal base further and further towards government coercion, which is a step to the left of where conservatives want us to be, and two steps to the left of where mitch mcconnell wants us to be.

diceratherium: None ! There are no..swing..voters...people may not vote..but..they basically never switch parties..the media loves to promote this idea..but the numbers show otherwise..elections are all about turnout..lets not forget..trump lost by 2 percent..3 million votes.

That.. is... Irrelevant... Because everyone in america ....... is a liberal.

The only people that are not modern day liberals are people that live in tp's and believe electricity is witchcraft.

rhym_boogie: Interesting take, but: Trump and his acolytes do NOT believe in broadening their knowledge, they are forever trying to deny not just new knowledge, but the ability of students to have access to. old knowledge and new data.

Second: The US is a "liberal" nation, but probably the most conservative, right wing version in the world today, and it's ties to liberalism and shift toward oligarchy is ongoing.

third: That 1% you mention does infect control vast swathes of USA law and bureaucracy. for example, the US is a nation with a racist history, but the attempt by liberal, democratic reduction of racism in laws is forever being undercut by entrenched bureaucracies controlled by the class which directs money. As example, the greatest factor in the creation of white wealth was real estate, especially suburban rings developed after both world wars. Most of those developments had federally supported loan guarantees and underwriting which reduced interest rates and which also required of developers no selling of those homes to Negroes (and sometimes other minorities, particularly Jews and Chinamen--which was reinforced in courts as Asians). It's laid out in a book called "The Color of Law". This was coupled with red-lining of banks and insurance companies in urban areas, which were then often surrounded by highways cutting those folks off from access to the greater community and increasing their costs of living far above the suburbs.

NO ONE GOT TO VOTE ABOUT THESE ISSUES. And no Democratic candidate is going to bring it up.
