The very idea that the FBI or ANY law enforcement outfit might want to monitor this trash strikes me as ridiculous. Certainly they have more important things to do than read most of this nonsense, including the stuff that I post. What is more, is it even legal for them to do such a thing anyway? This issue used to come up periodically when AOL still had chat rooms but that would require intense and round the clock monitoring and in the final analysis, while the FBI might find it diverting to read, I cannot believe that they would find it worth the trouble. Besidesâwhat would they be looking for and what, exactly, would they expect to find anyway? Political subversion? Child molesters? Terrorists? Evidence of mental illness? (Now THAT might yield some interesting results!) Come on, man, get real! The problem with the people who post here is that they tend to overestimate their importance which induces them to think that the FBI or any other law enforcement agency might be interested when in reality, the sum total of ANY chat roomâs output is so looney and weird that it would probably leave anybody who monitored it quite deranged after a while. Sometimes, when I consider the quality of what some people post, it reads more like a transcript of the rantings of a lunatic asylum than anything else. No, in the final analysis, chat rooms are just another tool for diversion of a generally indifferent and ignorant public which uses them more for some sort of emotional catharthis than anything else. People use them to settle vendettas, to meet potential sexual partners, to promote business or political interests, to vent, to insult perceived enemies, to satisfy their voyeuristic impulses or their curiosity, to boast, to harass or bully others or to derive a sense that their lives actually matter since many of them are desperately lonely and have no social skills at all in real life. Consequently, chat rooms are the best for which they can hope. Of course, there ARE some sexual perverts and child molesters who troll chat rooms for victims but by now, such people are aware that sexual predators are usually caught when actual surveillance is used and my guess is that they have simply abandoned this venue for more promising real life scenarios, whatever they might be. Outside of that, I cannot believe that law enforcement sees chat rooms as anything more than the modern equivalent of the ancient Roman trick known as âbread and circuses,â because while people are occupied with âchattingâ the government is occupied with its REAL goal: the acquisition of more power, wealth and imperialist conquest. Such things happen only when the general population is too absorbed in activities that prevent them from finding out what their governments are REALLY doing. TV serves a similar purpose and although there can be shows and documentaries of real value, the average boob who watches TV would rather watch female wrestling or violent and bloody âreal lifeâ crime dramas or indulge in something equally debasing and vulgar, like, say, shopping channels which offer items they donât really need. Just stop and think of the astronomical cost of advertising time and given the potential profits involved, and then it all begins to make more sense. Why do you think they call it the âboob tubeâ anyway? Chat rooms are just more evidence that the people who frequent them are too bored or too lazy to channel their energies into more meaningful enterprises, and once again, I do not exempt myself from that charge. Certainly there are many more things I could do to occupy myself but as I am retired and have lots of spare time on my hands, I allow myself to succumb to my curiosity and laziness and this is the end result. Of course, people with kids have every reason to be suspicious and watchful of them because kids ought to be doing other things instead of spending countless hours in chat rooms: in the case of teenagers, especially, who have other more pressing concerns like, say, applying to college, research for school assignments, or finding a job, pissing away all that time in a chat room can do real harm. So that seems to answer the question, at least in part, as to why chat rooms are so appealing. Of course, there are complex psychological and sociological reasons that can explain their appeal but basically, I think I have touched on some of the more obvious ones. Chat rooms will be with us forever, or as long as people need an outlet for whatever it is that really drives and motivates them, nothing more and nothing less. ECHO (Edited by Echolegacy) Echolegacy: Thanks, Beaver....I gave a lot of thought to the matter since itâs become such an integral part of most peopleâs livesâfor better or worse. ECHO refurbwoodart: Like I said any forum on public posting is monitored by Homeland security they have every post you have ever made here recorded there. Most of it gets dismissed though. They do like I said monitor all your post on any social media, any text you make and e mails you send. They don't really bother you unless you have some outrage about violence or plots against the government or unless your going to convert to that other religious belief that I wont mention here. But yeah they have an idea about who you are from all your communication. Thats why I dont have cable Satellite or internet in my house. I also have a phone that I can take the battery out of,its a smart phone but I can take the battery and cim card out. Echolegacy: Okay.....how do you know any of this to be true? Whereâs your proof? None of us are that important since they have bigger, more important things with which to contend. Iâm not saying that, theoretically, it couldnât be true, but then again, whereâs the evidence? Paranoia, man, it can really screw you up.....and I canât live my life that way. I just canât. ECHO (Edited by Echolegacy) refurbwoodart: I have a cousin who did it for 25 years until he started his own business for cyber security. He was a homeland security cyber security officer and hacker for our government. Yeah believe them when they da they don't do it but they do. Its just a program that if certain words or phrases pop up it ends a code for them to red everything yo say and monitor you until they are sure your not a terrorist or anything planning a violent crime or something. Sometime it slips by depending on your words or phrases though. refurbwoodart: Why do you think they built that $80 plus million dollar facility in Colorado for homeland security cybercloud. Echolegacy: Right, well....I know that certain words are flagged because they deal with things that the government certainly would want to know about, but you should never become too complacent about governments and their security apparatus because, like everything else pertaining to surveillance, give âem an inch and theyâll take ten miles so if youâre dumb enough to believe the government wonât use this sort of thing as a pretext for more intrusive actions into your private life, well, then, maybe youâd be happier living in North Korea, which is ruled and routinely terrorized by Trumpâs best bud, Kim Jong Un. I donât know about you, but this strikes me as the sort of thing that could lead to trouble, like, say, âprotective custodyâ (jail without a trial) âenhanced interrogationâ (torture) and âtermination with extreme prejudiceâ (death). Starting to get the picture? This trend of using polite euphemisms for governmental misbehavior is bad enough, but once a guy like Trump enters the picture, it can only get worse. After all, his own euphemism for fuck knows what could be âcovfefe" which is still being puzzled over by linguists but to Trumpâs worshippers, itâs all part of being a âstable genius,â which is like saying Joseph Goebbels was just a mischievous kid who couldnât get his facts straight after being called down to the principalâs office. If Trump really IS a âstable genius,â then I guess the folks in MENSA are just fumbling amateurs since even THEY donât know what the fuck âcovfefeâ is either! ECHO (Edited by Echolegacy) chronology: The FBI is way understaffed and underfunded. The Agents start work every day trying to keep up with an endless work load of murders and traitors and foreign spy activity. If you think they have any time to spend here you are mislead. When they do finish work, probably after donating hours of unpaid overtime they spend their time with family and friends. Even spending a few minutes here would be real loss to them. With the exception of Echo, the FBI would probably find most people's education report and job history which they can check. very underwhelming here. The FBI who ever did visit here would probably wonder why a fellow like Echo wastes his time here. Echolegacy: To Chronology: Thank you for the implied compliment by stating that my time here is wasted. I admitted that myself in my original post but being cooped up here because of the pandemic has given me more creative ways to waste some spare time. On the other hand, I do an enormous amount of reading, habitually, not to mention many other equally fulfilling past times like astronomy, music (I play the guitar), cycling, kayaking, birdwatching, collecting and selling rare books, and writing poetry, some of which has been published in small press publications to my great surprise and satisfaction. So I think that being online fiddling about with this web page is quite understandable, under the circumstances. However, you're probably correct by asserting that too much time on Wire Club IS wasted, but we all need ways to squander time when the mood strikes us. On the other hand, being on the Internet is interactive, at least, unlike completely passive past times like watching TV, which rots your brain if you watch too much of it. I will admit to having a passion for old movies but outside of that and watching a bit of TV news, most TV, as far as I can see, is undeniably mindless trash and the more you watch, you stupider you'll become. Case in point: I understand that Trump watches HOURS of TV and he's as dumb as a bag of hammers, so that proves my point. What's your chosen method of wasting time, by the way? I was just wondering.
