zeffur: re: "rebel1916: You can not legally lay claim to any land under any biblical nonsense."

Of course you can--it's been done many times by many societies.

Here's a bit of history for you to help you to understand how it is done:

From 1517 to 1917, Israel, along with much of the Middle East, was ruled by the Ottoman Empire.

In the late 19th and early 20th century, an organized religious and political movement known as Zionism emerged among Jews.

Zionists wanted to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Massive numbers of Jews immigrated to the ancient holy land and built settlements. Between 1882 and 1903, about 35,000 Jews relocated to Palestine. Another 40,000 settled in the area between 1904 and 1914.

In 1917, at the height of WWI, British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour submitted a letter of intent supporting the establishment of a Jewish homeland in Palestine in the hope that it would encourage support for the Allies in WWI.

When World War I ended in 1918 with an Allied victory, the 400-year Ottoman Empire rule ended, & Great Britain took control over what became known as Palestine (modern-day Israel, Palestine and Jordan).

The Balfour Declaration and the British mandate over Palestine were approved by the League of Nations in 1922. Arabs vehemently opposed the Balfour Declaration, concerned that a Jewish homeland would mean the subjugation of Arab Palestinians.

Many Jews living in Europe and elsewhere, fearing persecution during the Nazi reign, found refuge in Palestine and embraced Zionism. After the Holocaust and World War II ended, members of the Zionist movement primarily focused on creating an independent Jewish state.

Arabs in Palestine resisted the Zionism movement, and tensions between the two groups continue. An Arab nationalist movement developed as a result.

The British controlled Palestine until Israel, in the years following the end of World War II, became an independent state in 1947.

The United Nations approved a plan to partition Palestine into a Jewish and Arab state in 1947, but the Arabs rejected it. In May 1948, Israel was officially declared an independent state with David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, as the prime minister.

In 1963, the road to war was paved by the growing tension in the the middle east over the issue of exploiting the waters of the Jordan River and the Kineret Lake. This led to an escalation of military clashes initiated by Syria, and to an increase of Palestinian terror attacks against Israel encouraged by Arab states, particularly Syria.

The immediate causes for the war included a series of escalating steps taken by the Arabs: the concluding of a Syrian-Egyptian military pact to which Jordan and Iraq later joined, the expulsion of the UN Emergency Force (UNEF) from the Sinai Peninsula and the concentration of Egyptian forces there, and finally the closure by Egypt of the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping, constituting a casus belli for Israel.
When Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Lebanon moved their forces toward the Israeli border, Israel mobilized its reserve forces, and launched a diplomatic campaign to win international support to end the Egyptian blockade of Israeli shipping through the Straits of Tiran.

Rattling their swords & threaten by positioning militaries to invade Israel led Israel to initiate an offensive attack to defeat her enemies--which is what Israel did in the 1967 war.

Thus In 1967, Israel absorbed the whole of historical Palestine, as well as additional territory from Egypt and Syria. By the end of the war, Israel had expelled another 300,000 Palestinians from their homes, including 130,000 who were displaced in 1948, and gained territory that was three and a half times its size.

It's not unlike how the US govt took over America. Settlers settled lands & native indians attacked them. That led to pleas for military support--which escalated to wars in which the natives were defeated & given the opportunity to sign treaties to co-exist or be eliminated in war--in which they wisely agree to the treaties that were offered. In the case of Israel--they defeated their enemies & gained additional lands in the process.

That's how war works, dude--get used to reality. You can claim Israel are occupiers all you want--but, in all reality, they aren't giving up what they had to go to war for.

TheCovenant: Palestinians will never get independence. Israel has way better military shit than the Afrikaners ever had. Palestinian kids shit themselves every time they throw a rock. International pressure, israelis kill doctors with no consequences to themselves. Its a proxy war with USA on one side and Saudi Arabia and Iran on the other.

edmund_carey: Israelis only kill doctors when they get in the way of military response to attacks against Israel, usually its defenseless civilians.

And you can't know much about the Middle East if you think that Saudi Arabia and Iran are on the same side in anything whatever. Saudi Arabia has been steadily coming to see Israel as a stabilizing force and a natural ally AGAINST Iran, which is the real danger in the region.

TheCovenant: Section 1 reads as follows:
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.

This is a circular statement. In 1936 the Nazis needed more and more "democracy" to obtain power.

Israel is an apartheid democracy. As long as Palestinians home and abroad don't have a vote, Israel will remain a "democracy". You cant give the vote to people who hate you, especially when they out number you by 2 million. Hell the Israelis outlawed the Arab Israeli parties to prevent them from being a swing vote, and they only make up 10% of the population. That is true democracy.
