lavendar_star: Exactly Colin i actually just added that point in my post and that countries which have a high atheists population i.e. Scandinavian countries (as well as standard of living) have less crime than other countries . Furthermore, in some Islamic countries where they have sharia law and have strict laws for even minor crimes people still commit crime, dont get me started that in Saudi Arabia a woman can be whipped in public because she has been raped because of a interpretation of the Koran . I don't think religion stops people from being immoral and I don't think being non religious automatically makes one immoral.

hiya, colin

Zanjan: Lavendar: “I put that your hostile (which is different to being angry)”

Definition of Hostile:Opposed in feeling, action, or character; antagonistic: hostile criticism.
characterized by antagonism. Not friendly, warm, or generous; not hospitable.
Having an intimidating, antagonistic, or offensive nature.
Marked by malevolence : ill will, malice; *hatred*.

“your statement that most atheists are angry…..”

I never said that, please find a quote.

“and that "I think the subject was inspired by the overwhelming percentage of those belonging to the stereotype rather than the exceptions".

I didn’t create the subject. If there was nothing to it, it wouldn’t have come up. I can say that on wireclub, a heavy percentage of posters are nasty – that’s not indicative of real God believers who are religious since nastiness is against their nature.

“Also how do you know that religious people in jail are a rarity!!!!!!!please provide evidence”

Because I know what a religious person is – I *am* one, being a genuine member in good standing. I'm also a true believer. Who would know more about what it takes to be a spiritually authentic adherent?

You, on the other hand, seem to believe those in jail are trustworthy; consequently, you’d be suckered in by their spurious claims.

Zanjan: ‘The United States has the highest rate of incarceration in the developed world, with approximately 2.3 million men and women – or about 1-in-100 of the nation’s adults – behind bars. (the Pew Forum)’

This doesn't look good for the US, not that its had a whole lot of esteem on the world stage anyway.

Colin: “Christians are over-represented in the prison population……..”

Most certainly they are. Do you realize anyone can call themselves a Christian without ever signing on the dotted line? Who honestly believes most criminals publicly represented themselves as religious adherents before they were caught?

When asked, inmates pick Christianity primarily because it’s the only religion they think has influence in the USA. Did you know they get out of jail faster if they say they’re born-again Christians? Yet more than 40% of former inmates end up back in prison within a few years.

As for the non-Christian inmates with so called religious affiliations, they’re referring to the culture in which they were born, not to their chosen way of life. One can just imagine how this question was put to them.

In case any of you are confused about their real identity, there’s a simple Biblical pointer: “you’ll know them by their fruits”.

You can't argue the obvious fact: so many people want to fake being religious but nobody wants to fake being an atheist. Hmmmmmm..........

Atheist doctors are likely to practice medicine among the underprivileged than religious physicians, even though most religions call on the faithful to serve the poor, according to the results of large cross-sectional survey of US medical practitioners published in Annals of Family Medicine.

Researchers from the University of Chicago and Yale New Haven Hospital report that 31 percent of physicians who were more religious—as measured by "intrinsic religiosity" as well as frequency of attendance at religious services—practiced among the underserved, compared to 35 percent of physicians who described their religion as atheist, agnostic or none.

"This came as both a surprise and a disappointment," study author Farr Curlin, MD, said. "The Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist scriptures all urge physicians to care for the poor, and the great majority of religious physicians describe their practice of medicine as a calling. Yet we found that religious physicians were not more likely to report practice among the underserved than their secular colleagues."

Physicians avoid spending the bulk of their time caring for the poor as it could mean forgoing professional prestige, free time and academic opportunities.

Not true. My ex-girlfriend was a devout Catholic and each time we made love, she would cry out "Oh, nothing! Oh, nothing! "

Zanjan: OMG, Colin! That's just too graphic

"This only shows that theists aren't better human beings than atheists"

I think it has more to do with the location the doctor sets up office. In Canada, doctors are given postings - they go where people have no doctor. We also have Medicare so all doctors get paid the same for every patient.

Ever since Medicare was established, we've experienced a serious brain drain of our most talented Medical Physicians to the US. I think that tells you where their priorities are - has nothing to do with religion. Thus, one can conclude that all money-grubbing capitalist doctors live in the USA.

I'm worth my salt - it's the spice of the world and also cleans wounds ::
