The 10 commandments, what would you alter? (Page 3)

Zanjan
Zanjan: Geoff: "Not necessarily, at least not on a conscious level. Denial is a powerful thing, almost as powerful as the placebo effect."

Denial still requires knowledge of the existence of a thing - denial is concerted rejection. You cant reject what you're not aware of. If I turn my back to a person, that doesn't mean I believe he doesn't exist - it means I'm denying him attention since I place little to no value on his existence. Mr. Invisible knows what I'm talking about - I would not deign to mention his name.

Some doctors have told people they're depressed as a standard response when they couldn't find anything physically wrong with a person. These same doctors said "We don't know what causes that", yet in the very next breath conclude "It's all in your head". Wha the???? This is why people change doctors.

Orkanen: “These are Solon's 10 commandments”

I guess plagiarism was legal in those days. It isn’t now. If Solon’s list were even half ways workable, the world’s peoples would have preserved and followed them. Why didn’t they? Instead, they said SOLONG, and moved on.

“Women were at the time considered property”

Nooooooooo......really? Wow, blaze of revelation there! God didn’t make a Law to exempt women from the Sabbath.

What plagiarism? Which 10 commandments were before Solon's 10 commandments? Oh, and "human rights" obviously aren't such a good idea either, seeing how they're treated in countries where people with religious agendas rule.

I'm glad you finally realize that fact. And as you now know this, can we move on, with this in mind?

Solon lived 500 years before Jesus; Moses lived 1,300 and some years before Jesus - that might give you a clue.

Human rights? There's a difference between a right and a privilege. You can't force anything on a people before they're ready, even if it's the law. Some claim they have the right to nearly anything - well, if the people don't accept it, you can scream all you want and the only result is a sore throat.

We make progress through education and role modeling, mostly amongst the under 30's group. Unfortunately, social progress is exceedingly slow but still a lot faster than evolution.
