TheDoctor394: Hmmm...
When I started this thread, it was meant to be a discussion on what a Christianity was - hence the title. I finished my part of it after a while, as I thought we were pretty much going in circles, and there was not much more I could say.
While I've been overseas, and now come back, I see this has degenerated into just more ridicule of Christianity as a whole, with Risen Sun trying admirably to balance things.
Of course, this whole site isn't about Christianity, or in favour of it, but I would have thought that, if people did want to make fun of any religion, they could find somewhere better than a religious section, and a thread entitled "What is a Christian?"
But maybe not.

Zanjan: Doctor: "When I started this thread, it was meant to be a discussion on what a Christianity was"

That wasn't the name of this topic - we know what Christianity is. The title is ""what is a Christian".

Posters were allowed to give their views on what they think a Christian is - as in, what they think a Christian should be, whether anyone likes it or not. Unfortunately, I agree, not too many people have answered your question, not even the Christians. Instead, posters have turned it into either a bash opp or promo add.

They've reminded me of the beatitudes.

Anyway, despite the digressions, however essential, it's not too late to steer it back to the straight and narrow.

I may have said this before. When people spoke of my great grandmother, they described her as the best Christian they'd ever known - most who said that were Christians. I always thought it was amusing because these people didn't realize that, although she was born and raised Christian, she belonged to a different religion, much newer.

So, they had in mind the ideal Christian, which seemed to be an unwritten understanding. What's the be all and end all that they could shove it into one word and everyone would know what they meant? Would that person be "Christ-like"? If so, how would one describe Christ?

I bet not too many would touch that with a ten foot pole either.

TheDoctor394: Oops, my apologies. I meant to write "Christian", not "Christianity".
To answer your question, Zanjan, "Christ-like" would be to be humble, while still firm and strong. Someone who thinks of others above Himself, who is ready to serve and offer help where necessary, without being a weak slave. To be wise, thoughtful and respectful.
Those are a few admirable traits He had, which we would do well to emulate.

Zanjan: "Someone who thinks of others above Himself"

You must have meant....... "before" Himself.

What first strikes me about Christ is *kindness* & *gentleness* in His ways. His speech is a different story - the tone and approach would change, depending on who He was speaking to. This includes His *silence* when fools, baiters, and the disrespectful are speaking. Occasionally, we get a peek at His body language.

My GG passed away before I was born; others have told me she was a very agreeable and gentle person, never an errant word yet very perceptive. When she wanted to do something she thought others might object to, she just held her silence and did it. They were left in shock, since they'd forgotten she had a mind of her own and was very capable of making tough decisions.

She loved with profound respect and was the epitome of fair and forgiving, although a bit too lenient with the young for the time period. In those days, European women were strict with their young and bossy with their husbands. She was the opposite; she'd make her husband think it was his idea

I can see similarities in these qualities; everyone said she had a very magnetic personality. My dad once told me she was the only woman he ever loved. I wish I had known her first hand. How regrettable my mom never picked up anything from this wonderful role model......however, this shows that her light shone beyond the grave, even capable of skipping a generation to touch her descendants.

Yet from these sparse bits and pieces, gathered orally about her, there's no doubt in my mind she was a true believer and practiced faithfully her love of God.
