No where in the constitution does it say anything about white rule. Those men also wrote into the constitution the ability to amend it. It is called Amendments. You know what those are right? And congress writes the laws by people elected to do so by the population. The Supreme Court reviews all laws to make sure they are constitutional. Sure there were a lot of growing pains over the last 2 hundred years and look where we are today. Today there are laws that FORBID the discrimination of anyone because of race, creed, color or sexual orientation. Progressive liberals are socialists and many are communists' in sheep's clothing and would like to see the constitution scrapped, like yourself, and another form of government installed mirroring what they have in Russia or China or North Korea or Iran or perhaps Malaysia. There were 620,000 causalities in the Civil War with a population of only 44 million. There were 644,000 in all other conflicts. It was only as recently as the Vietnam War that the amount of American deaths in foreign wars eclipsed the number who died in the Civil War. The Civil War was fought to bring down the state governments that revolted which were trying to keep their way of life which included slavery. The war pitted brother against brother. Hundreds of thousands died. Hundreds of thousands were wounded with hideous injuries with little medical support. A terrible war which had to be fought to rid the country of slavery. It was a beginning and took many generations to get to the 1960's where MLK delivered his famous I Have A Dream speech. We still today are challenged with making everyone equal in the eyes of the Constitution. The supreme court has been busy. Do not disgrace those that fought and died for freedom. . pyroclastic flo: i would like to remind you, dave, that this off topic was started by you calling me a "progressive" as if that's a bad thing. there were 12 slave owning signers of the Constitution and i think its safe to assume none of them ever imagined their slaves voting. had the country become and remained strictly conservative women and nonwhite people would not be voting and there would certainly never have been a black man in the White House. that would be because conservatives tend to seek to conserve the status quo (hence the term "conservative" ) since the status quo is usually to their advantage. in the USA the status quo is STILL to the advantage of wealthy white men. but whatever... back to topic - i remain of the opinion that the world is running out of room for aggressive primitive tribal mentalities to war on each other. their idiotic religious/ territorial squabbles affect the whole of the interconnected human community and peaceful people of conscience are sick of it.
