The worst educational levels in America stretch across the most religious section of the country. A coincidence? (Page 3)

Zanjan: Dave, as for Edward Snowden, he was a technical contractor, systems administrator – not a dropout.

Everyone wants a good education for their child so they can compete on the job market. They’d all love to have post-secondary so they can get a good paying job to buy nice stuff and security. They never think how much more important it is to know the right thing to do with that education.

Did you listen to Malala Yousafzai’s recent address to the United Nations? (the teen activist, who was shot in the head by the Taliban). She referred to education as a weapon.

Dave: “Zanjan, what in the world do Bernie Madoff, Edward Snowden and that case in Calgary have to do with this thread?? They have absolutely nothing to do with whether there is a correlation between poor education and religion.”

Looking at all these really well—educated guys who are stupid crooks (they got caught), who’ve come from the most religious areas of our country, that tells you nothing??? Then all the poorly educated people who live in the most religious areas of our country tells you nothing as well. Case closed.

davesdatahut: Ok, again, this is not what this thread is about. This thread is about the South and whether there is a connection between poor education and big-time religion. Those cases are about crooks, one who happened to be educated and one not. (and yes, Snowden was a dropout, you can look it up on the google). Nothing to do with the South and nothing to do with religion.

Zanjan: I did. There's more than one Edward Snowden; have you checked to see if they're related?

Right.......there's no connection between the north and the south. Obviously, that means there's no connection between the east and the west. I certainly agree there's no connection between the religious and non-religious, or the bad and the good.

Case closed.

davesdatahut: here are the national figures from 2011 (latest year available):
non-Hispanic white - 63.3%
non-Hispanic black - 12.2 %
non-Hispanic Asian - 4.8 %
Hispanic - 16.7 %
other (mostly native americans and multi-racial people) - 3.0 %
State data might get a little long to paste in here. Is there a way to do a spreadsheet file transfer on wireclub?

chronology
chronology: The world today has changed beyond recognition as far as young people and 'education' is concerned. Thanks to Americans like Bill Gates, and other Web Creators, young people everywhere on earth have almost 'God like' access to vast amounts of knowledge and information.

As an example I always tell how, 30 or so years ago I was looking up a subject. I spent weeks in Local Libraries and then had to ride (by Motorcycle) over to a Reference Library with the material I wanted on their Micro Film records. It was all a little like Johnny Depp in the movie 'The Ninth Gate' . But guess what. Today a teenager anywhere, in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, can just flip open his or her Smart Phone and access 10 times as much knowledge on the subject I was checking on in just 5 Minutes. While I wasted weeks walking up stairs, riding along roads, loading and unloading Micro Film Rolls, today any teenager can know ten times more than I learned in just 5 minutes.

People like Bill Gates have really empowered the younger generation.

chronology: Heard about a guy who had a masters degree from a California university who worked at washing dishes and lived in a cave just outside Las Vegas.

Seems a little strange for such a intelligent person. Maybe he was doing a sociology paper on the fast food workers.
