ghostgeek: Now Prair, to make it as simple as possible for you, here is what I'm saying. The Hebrews followed Moses to Midian and there they camped around an active volcano. This volcano was not a supernatural being, was not a manifestation of God, was not anything other than a regular volcano, the likes of which erupt some fifty times a year somewhere around the world. That the Hebrews thought they were experiencing a theophany is beside the point; they were mistaken. Moses misled them. Everything you read about in Exodus can be explained quite simply by invoking various natural phenomena. Just because ignorant pastoralists, three thousand years ago, thought they'd witnessed God descend upon a mountain doesn't mean I, in the twenty first century, have to accept their delusion. For me, volcanoes are volcanoes, nothing more, and certainly not God. You see, I prefer the truth, however unpalatable, to the easy comfort of old myths.
