Right-Wingers Want ‘Lucifer’ TV Show To Be Canceled, So Let’s All Watch It

Outbackjack
Outbackjack: Conservative Christians are throwing a fit over a work of fiction because it portrays Satan as a likable character.

Remember the right-wing group One Million Moms? You know, the group affiliated with the hate group American Family Association that only has 71,000 likes on Facebook and a paltry 2,900 followers on Twitter? The group that constantly starts doomed to fail petitions demanding they get their way?

Well, 71,000 One Million Moms is at it again. This time, they are whining about an upcoming Fox series based on DC characters created by Neil Gaiman titled Lucifer, starring Tom Ellis as Satan himself.

This is the premise of the show, according to Fox.

Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, The original fallen angel, Lucifer Morningstar has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub.

But One Million Moms, or 71,000 Moms if you want to be accurate, want Fox to cancel the show because Lucifer isn’t evil enough and the show will somehow “glorify Satan.”

“FOX has plans in 2016 to air ‘Lucifer,’ a new series which will glorify Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh,” the group wrote on Facebook.

The series will focus on Lucifer portrayed as a good guy, “who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell.” He resigns his throne, abandons his kingdom and retires to Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.

At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel Amenadiel, has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld.

Previews of the pilot episode depict graphic acts of violence, a nightclub featuring scantily-clad women and a demon.

Outbackjack: Naturally, Gaiman couldn’t resist responding to the conservative group to remind them of their past failures.

Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting Sandman because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organizing a boycott of Sandman, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform. I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…

Of course, if One Million Moms had read the premise more thoroughly, they might see this show differently.

The first episode revolves around a pop star murdered outside of Lucifer’s new club and he starts to have feelings of compassion and sympathy for the first time in billions of years. Then a detective shows up and further complicates things.

The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective CHLOE DANCER (Lauren German, “Chicago Fire”), who initially is dismissive of Lucifer. But she becomes intrigued by his talent for drawing out people’s secrets and his desire to dispense justice, doling out punishment to those who deserve it. As they work together to solve the pop star’s murder, Lucifer is struck by Chloe’s inherent goodness. Accustomed to dealing with the absolute worst of humanity, Lucifer is intrigued by Chloe’s apparent purity and begins to wonder if there’s hope for his own soul yet.

At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel AMENADIEL (DB Woodside, “Suits,” “24”), has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld…can the Devil incarnate be tempted toward the side of Good, or will his original calling pull him back toward Evil?

Here’s a preview of “Lucifer” via YouTube.

In short, it appears this story about Lucifer is a struggle between good and evil and which one he will choose. In the story, Satan is traveling on a path towards redemption. One would think that would be a story all Christians would find intriguing. If Satan can redeem himself, then there is hope for anyone. If anything, conservative Christians should be more pissed about God sending an angel to convince Lucifer to go back to being evil. One would think God would welcome Lucifer’s walk on the side of good.

Plus, it’s not like Lucifer has never been a good guy before. In the Bible itself, Lucifer is an angel who was close to God before falling from grace and becoming the ruler of Hell. The new Fox series merely portrays Satan turning over a new leaf and perhaps finding his way back. Isn’t that what Christianity is all about? That one can find their way back no matter how far they have fallen?

Frankly, One Million Moms protesting this show just makes me want to watch it even more now. Because if they hate it, it must be good. So let’s all watch “Lucifer” when it premieres in 2016. Not only will you be watching an intriguing program, you’ll be pissing off conservatives in the process.

Zanjan: Like any other mom, I can certainly appreciate a flight of fancy. However, since one is using a Biblical story, they should at least stick with the main plot. Yes, God chose to unleash Satan from hell - that's ok. Also ok is the Angel telling Satan to go back to hell, where he's supposed to be chained up for a long time.

However, where it diverges from the story is that Satan does NOT take up roots in LA! If they'd had him as a nomad, wandering the earth, all caring moms would have considered that fair. It's a snarky shot but its Hollywood - hardly the first time they've picked on a city. Maybe we can overlook that if the script is witty.

As for Satan's character, everybody knows the devil has his suave attractions; if he didn't, who would find him charmingly alluring? BUT he only deceives the wicked......so, only wicked moms would try to hide that.

Geoff: "But who prays for Satan? Who in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most, our one fellow and brother who most needed a friend yet had not a single one, the one sinner among us all who had the highest and clearest right to every Christian's daily and nightly prayers, for the plain and unassailable reason that his was the first and greatest need, he being among sinners the supremest?"

Zanjan: Well, God DID give him a second chance anyway, letting him out of hell to have fun for awhile. He relapsed but we don't have to think about that part. We can just have fun with him and enjoy his ride. The trailer looks more intriguing the blah sitcom fare and swamp people stuff.

chronology: Jack. 'Lucifer' has never been described in the Bible as 'good' . The only comments about him in his pre fallen state is that he was (and I mean no disrespect to that fearsome being) self absorbed, fabulously wealthy, of consummate intelligence, and beautiful beyond imagining. His cruelty was commented on even before he fell after his attempt to wrestle control of the Universe from God.

American Mom's are probably just being concerned that a being who is associated with murder, sexual perversion, and every kind of despicable act is being promoted on American TV.

'Well done' I would say to the Mom's for their courageous stand.

Its the nightclub that gives it away.

American farts hated nightclubs.

Even in London the police asked the press not to talk about these private clubs because they get so much harassment when Joe Public ever hears about them.

Serbians fleeing their crimes in Yugoslavia thought they could take over a night club in Norwich and run it their way without fear of being noticed.

R E B E C C A: Wouldn't you think that when one of the largest religions on the planet threatens to murder one woman for hosting a cartoon competition, that fox news should of condemned the threats. But they didn't, they didn't have the courage to stand up for one woman . Not only that but they set about making Pamela Geller to be the villain, they called her racist and intolerant, that she was the one provoking violence and without allowing people to see for themselves the cartoon which only said "do not draw me" AND the reason they gave was that they didn't think it was right to insult peoples religion!
So now Christians who have conducted a peaceful and dignified protest against Fox who want to depict Satan as "not that bad of a guy" because its an insult to their religion...And they are being ignored.
You could argue the message that "Lucifer" sends out is worse than the winner of Pamela Gellers cartoon cartoon. But not as bad as the message that Fox wants to send out which is , we will respect those who threaten and use violence to get their own way.
I don't think i can be bothered to sit through a b rate movie just to make a mockery of Christian moms. I wonder if their reaction to "lucifer" will be as infantile and contrived as this....

Take notice of that folks^^ Thats how you need to protest in future....just pretend you cant control your emotions keep in mind you need to "be pathetic"

If a Stalker ever turns up on your door step, by golly that would be depressing if she had a cheap bad hair cut and cheap ill fitting clothes that are out of fashion.
