Mormons, Are there any on here? shadowline: Have you received no response to this, Mary? That surprises me. I have certainly spoken to Mormons on here. Zanjan: They say they're Christians - how is that a different faith from other Christians? I think the proper word is "denomination". shadowline: Belief in salvation though Christ is surely enough to qualify them as Christian, but, they do seem to have some very strange ideas, that strike all other believers in Christ as heterodox to an extreme degree. Zanjan: I can confirm that because it's blatantly evident in my town, which is in the Bible belt of my country. Ours is a small town of 3,700 people; the highway runs north-south right through its center; it has 11 different churches - 10 on the west side and one on the east side (the Mormon). There's a Youth fusion community service group with members from all the different denominations, except the Mormon. I'm not a Christian so, to me, it looks like the feud runs deep. (Edited by Zanjan) SplendorofYah: I read their book for entertainment purposes and even the mistakes of translation were copied. If they understood that most of the old testament is made up of coded texts there would be not need to make up folklores. Zanjan: Like other groups suddenly appearing at that time, the Mormons began strictly as a group prepared for the imminent return of Christ. It was the messianic age all over the world - today, a lot of people forget that because it's behind us now. While most of the other groups soon dissolved out of disappointment, the Mormons are still around. If there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that Christ, on His return, doesn't collect groups to be with Him, only individuals; and, that it's HE, Who does the choosing, not us. I read almost half of the Book of Moroni before closing it because I didn't find anything new. That led me to question its purpose. Perhaps, with this book, the Mormons had hoped to escape the gravity of Christianity but that was impossible. (Edited by Zanjan) Apokalupto: Mormonism is not Christianity. When you start reading the Bible and only the Bible for all faith and practice as your final authority, adding nothing but relying on Jesus on everything as your foundation and letting go of man made religion, then you will know the truth that is taught in the word of God. - Mormonism isn't it. Mormonism is the religion and philosophy of Joseph Smith. Apokalupto: All the more reason to use Sola Scriptura "Only Scripture" as our sole authority for faith and practice. Zanjan: In that case, just read from the Bible out loud. Anyone can do it, even kids. If you don't feel like it, just pay someone else to do that. If I were paying, I'd make em' sing it, like it used to be done. elsafer: The only truth is Jesus.....He didn't promise to fix, He promised to renew and reign.
