The Language Jesus Spoke

Apokalupto
Apokalupto: Jesus speaks Aramaic and Greek side by side.

Mark 14:36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

Abba, Father. This comes from Aramaic and Greek. Ἀββᾶ ὁ πατὴρ. "Abba" is an Aramaic transliteration into Greek, meaning letter for letter. The translation of Abba into Greek is Pater (πατὴρ)

edmund_carey: Well, of course the Aramaic word is transliterated into Greek. The New Testament is in Greek. But the word Jesus is using is Aramaic. That Jesus may have spoken Greek has often been speculated on - since that language was known throughout the Middle East in the wake of the empire of Alexander the Great - but no one has been able to prove that he did speak it, that I have heard.
