Apokalupto: JESUS IN GENESIS

All throughout the Bible we need to understand that Jesus Christ is being spoken of a lot of time. Acts of The Apostles 10:43 To him (Jesus) give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
That is the message of the entire Bible. All of the prophets give witness to that, and if you remember when Jesus was on the road to Emmaus and met with those two disciples in Luke he begins to expound the scriptures unto them all of the things concerning Himself.

Luke 24:25-27 Then he (Jesus) said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

If you want to have a good understanding of scripture, the right way to do it when reading the Old Testament is to be looking for Jesus.

Luke 24:44 And he (Jesus) said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Jesus is claiming that the Bible is written about Himself and that all things must be fulfilled, not just “Messianic” prophesies. – He has fulfilled the foundation first, and the seed has sprouted into a tree which represents the skeletal structure of what Christ was fulfilling in his first coming, but soon the fruit will bud and He will return in the fullness of time and fulfill those things which had need of the tree first of all before it buds.

So when you are reading Genesis, look for Jesus, as you’re reading exodus, look for Jesus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua. And let me tell you, He is there, Christ says He is,, you’ll find Him, and in fact He is there a lot more than you might think. And this is why Jews can’t understand the Old Testament because It’s about Jesus and that just goes right over their head.

It’s overwhelming how much Jesus is in one book, Genesis, you’d have to be blind not to see it. Some things are more obvious than others, but other things are a little harder to point out, but that’s the point as you grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ you will start seeing things pop out all over the place.

I’m not going to show everything in Genesis, I guarantee you that you could spend a lifetime studying Genesis and continue finding more about Him. So this will be the highlights, some of the main scriptures showing Jesus in Genesis.

Here we go.

#1
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
For Christians we know this is Jesus who created the heaven and the earth
Colossians 1:15-16 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Jesus Christ was the one who actually did the creating on behalf of God the Father.

#2
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Here is Jesus in the trinity because God is speaking of Himself in the plural, saying Let “us” make man in “our” image.

#3
Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Of course now this is talking about marriage, but it is also talking about Jesus albeit not as blatantly obvious as some of the others. What does this got to do with Jesus? This is Christ being sent by God and joining Himself with his bride.

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (That is, He died for the church)

Ephesians 5:31-32 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

He’s saying it’s a great mystery that they become one flesh, but that the greater mystery is Christ and the Church, that’s actually what’s being pictured in Genesis 2. So there are great things that on the surface and a whole lot of things going on under the surface too, and its all pointing us to Jesus. Its all teaching is faith and salvation in Christ.

Genesis 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

This is Adam and Eve after they disobeyed God and ate of the forbidden fruit and they realize they’re naked so in order to remedy that and clothe their nakedness they sow together fig leave and make for themselves aprons. However this was not enough and was inadequate and God steps in.
Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

So after God rebukes them for their sin and tells them about their punishments and predicts the coming of Jesus Christ in verse Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. This is the seed of the woman bruising the head of the serpent, or Satan on the cross, because Jesus rose again, that was the bruise to His heel, but Jesus the seed of the woman bruises the serpents head on the cross and conquers death and sin and now offers eternal salvation.

But back to Gen 3:21 God makes them coats of skins. Their covering for sin was what? A fig leaf apron. But Gods covering was made of an animal skins. You know what that represents? The fig leaves or any kind of clothing made of plants represents mans own efforts, man owns works. They’re trying to cover their sin with their own works by sowing together their own fig leaf apron. God provides the real covering for their sin which was killing an animal and made coats of skins, and was probably a lamb or a ram as we will see why next.

But anyway, this pictures 2 ways for your sins to be covered, 1. is your futile effort of sowing together fig leaves together, using your own effort and works, your plant based remedy, lol. The other way number 2. Is Gods way and it’s the blood of the lamb, which is being clothed in that robe of righteousness provided by God Himself, which is the same exact thing taught in genesis 4.

Genesis 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. (Note also that Cain is first born which says something about the two covenants)
Genesis 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
Genesis 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

So God had respect unto Abels offering but not Cains offering. Cain is bringing his fruits and vegetables, his “hard earned labor”- the plant based offering. God did not accept it as just as He did not accept it in Gen 3:21 and made coats of skins. It’s the Lamb that pictures Jesus Christ all throughout the Bible. John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Noah’s ark - another great foreshadow of Jesus.
So God commands that Noah build the boat and tells him how to do it, and one of the feature is that it has only one door.
Genesis 6:16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

Throughout the story of Noah’s ark the door is significant because it says God is the one who shuts them in, and opens the door. The ark pictures salvation because without the ark your doomed physically, but the spiritual meaning is salvation from damnation, from hell. - And it only has one door, this represents only one way to be saved. John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Btw, here is a little trivia for you.
Jesus made 7 “I am” statements in the book of John. Why is this significant? Because God calls Himself the “I AM”
Exodus 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

In the New Testament Jesus makes this “I am” statement Himself. This is apparent in the original Greek and not English. In the Bible people did not say “I am-going to the mountain.” they say “I going to the mountain” and so they don’t pronounce the full “I am” to respect God. This is yet another way Jesus chose to show is who He is and its amazing.

I am the bread of life - John 6:35
I am the light of the world - John 8:12
I am the door - John 10:7
I am the good shepherd - John 10:11
I am the resurrection and the life - John 11:25
I am the way, the truth, and the life - John 14:6
I am the true vine - John 15:1

OKAY back to the subject.

There was no back door to Noahs ark, hence Jesus is the only way, he’s claiming to be the door to their salvation. An interesting note is the fact that God says to Noah for him to “come” into the ark. Now where does God have to be to tell Noah to come into the ark? He has to be in the ark itself. This is why God didn’t say “go” into the ark, if He said Go into the ark, where would God be? Outside of the ark.
Genesis 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. – The ark is a picture of Jesus, and He is the door.

In Genesis eleven the people tried to build a tower unto heaven and that pictures mans futile effort to work his way to heaven, to earn his way to heaven. It’s the same thing the fig leaf apron represented and the same thing that Cain tried to do by offering his vegetables, his hard earned work unto God. These are all the same point made in different ways- you can’t work your way to heaven, God does not respect that.

The promise to Abraham.

Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 15:6 And he (Abraham) believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

The New Testament interpretation.

Galatians 3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

So how was it that Abraham was declared righteous in the sight of God? It was through faith. How did he get saved, how was he justified? Because he believed God and it was accounted unto him for righteousness
Galatians 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
Acts of The Apostles 10:43 To him (Jesus) give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

So when God says to Abraham in genesis 12:3 that in thee shall all families be blessed, what was on Gods mind? So when God said “You know what Abraham? Im going to make of you a great nation, in thee shall all nations of the earth be blessed.” Was He picturing the Jewish flag waving back and forth?? I doubt it. He was thinking about all the heathen hearing about the gospel and looking at people getting saved by the same faith of Abraham that is now on Christ that the Philippines, the Japanese, the Russians, the Brazilians, the Chinese the Ethiopians, the United States, Mexico, He was looking at people being saved being justified by faith. “In thee shall all nations of the earth be blessed” Abraham believed God and it was accounted unto him for righteousness.

Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

So the proper way to understand Genesis 12:3 is to understand it as a prophecy of Jesus, that the reason that God is even choosing Abram, I mean right out of the gate, “Alight I’m choosing you Abram! Do you want to know why im choosing you?! Oh, so I can enjoy land, so I can have a wall that you pray to! So you can keep dietary laws!” Really? Folks, why is he being chosen? Hes being chosen to bring forth the Christ into the world so the whole world through Him might be blessed by believing. And Abraham believed God and it was accounted unto him for righteousness. The whole point of the nation of Israel was to bring us Jesus.

In Genesis chapters 13 & 14 we have the story about Lot, Abrahams nephew going and living in a wicked place, Sodom, and because of that bad things happen to him, he ends up getting kidnapped and becoming a prisoner of war, so then Abraham takes his 318 servants that are trained and he goes and fights a battle against these kings and liberates his nephew Lot and defeats his enemies. -And then Melchizedek shows up… and blesses Abraham after he comes back from the battle. And then it says Melchizedek is the priest of the Most High God, the God of Abraham. He also comes bringing bread and wine which is what Jesus had at the last supper.

Genesis 14:18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
Genesis 14:19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
Genesis 14:20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

And the Bible interprets what “Melchizedek” means, which is “King of righteousness” and after that King of Salem which means “King of peace.”
Hebews 7:1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
Hebews 7:2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; And then it says this.
Hebews 7:3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

In other words, this is no human being who had a mom and dad, who had a normal life and lived and died, but He is without end of life, divine, an Old Testament appearance of Jesus Christ.

Of course this is not the first or last time Jesus showed up in the Old Testament, it happens quite a few times.

For example in Genesis 18 the LORD, the tetragrammaton YHVH, Jehovah appeared unto Abraham in plains of Mamre in the heat of the day, and YHVH has with Him two angels and He talks to Abraham face to face, Sarah laughs at Him and Abraham talks with God Himself. But heres the thing, we know that God the Father no one can see His face and live, “and no man has seen God at any time, the only begotten Son which is the boson of the Father He hath declared Him.” So it had to be the Son. It certainly wasn’t the Holy Spirit, it was pre-incarnate Jesus Christ.

Now on to Joseph. Ill remind the reader that there are much much more similitudes and shadows of Christ in these OT characters than whats being presented here, and some of them are profoundly detailed and deep, and Joseph is one of them so ill write it down in more bullet point form and still not everything will be covered, I just want to show the major theme.

First of all, Josephs birth was miraculous because his mother was barren and God miraculously opened her womb. The numerous miraculous births in the OT always remind us of Jesus virgin birth.

He was sent by his father Abraham to seek his brethren, just as Jesus was sent by
His Father to seek and to save that which was lost. We started out in genesis with Cain and he said “Am I my brothers keeper?” but then when we get to Joseph the man who represents Jesus he says “I seek his brethren” complete opposite attitude.

Both of their coats were stripped from their bodies.

Joseph and Jesus were both betrayed for silver.

He was hated and rejected by his brethren just like Jesus was hated and rejected by His brethren, which we can say Jesus brethren is the whole nation of Israel. This is a major pitfall for the Jews in understanding the Messiah, they cannot understand because they reject the word of God and the pattern He has brilliantly laid out time and time again.

Both were betrayed and handed over to the gentiles, mind you.

Later in Josephs life in Egypt he was falsely accused and thus put in prison, as Jesus was falsely accused and put on the cross. In prison there is the butler and the baker, one has the death sentence, the other is reinstated, just as Jesus hung between two thieves, one was damned, the other was forgiven.

Then he is taken from prison and stood at the right hand of pharaoh in power, just as Christ came back from the dead and ascended to the right hand of the Father.

Genesis 37:8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

Reminds us of Moses, when he came to his brethren, Exodus 2:14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? God shows us just how stiff necked they can be, this is a reoccurring theme throughout the Old Testament, and if im correct, every time this happens where Gods servant is mocked rejected or betrayed, they later do reign over them.

When Christ comes back in His kingdom, this story in the word of God will be remembered.

Genesis 45:4 And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.
Genesis 45:5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
Genesis45:6 For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
Genesis 45:7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
Genesis 45:8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
