Do You Think that NASA Will Ever Go To Mars?? otcclass2008: Do to NASA's funds being cut the Moon is out of the question so do you ever think that they will make it to Mars??? At this point in time I don't think so..With the Moon out of the question I don't see how they will make it to Mars.. But please if you would let me know your thought and why you may think that we might and how we might without the use of the Moon as a jumping off point.. Robot_Fox: I believe it to be temporary, I mean the space race will never die, its lasted since the cold war and it'll last forever. It is indeed the last frontier. NASA is foremost an integral part of space exploration and an important asset in meteorology, there are just too many connections to NASA for the govt. to start a deep cut as this into NASAs financial funds. I dont expect the loss of finance to last too long. If it does, I give up on the countries that help fund them. john1576: Part of the problem is that Space has lost much of it's romantic appeal. N.A.S.A. Astronauts were the heroes of almost every child around the world in the 1960s. Today people know being in Space is an unpleasant experience to say the least. Chronic diarrhea, vomiting, extreme disorientation are common. And then there are the risks, Challenger, Columbia, you need to be a brave girl or boy to sit on those rockets. Riddler_This: There are no human missions currently, but NASA is sending another rover to Mars next year called Curiosity. Dasvide: NASA will send maned mish to mars. maby not for 40 or 50 yrs but we will get to the red planet. china will be first at this rate but we will get thare. tell the gov to stop buying tanks and billion $ jets and give it to nasa. otcclass2008: Robert: I do hope that you are right..with the way the economy is going it may take a while before NASA ever sees money like they have been used to seeing come from the government.. John: I believe that you are correct.. When the shuttles first started to launch it was a very romantic thing to watch.. Watch how people can go off into space.. somewhere most can only dream of going but since the explosions of Discovery and Columbia it has made them all to real just how dangerous and costly going out into space is.. It is sad that they have lost its romantic side like they have.. Dasvide: risk is a part of progress. how many died trying to fly, building bridges, boats, dams or anything else? with great risk come great rewards. i cant live with the attitude "never try never fail" otcclass2008: Dasvide: that is so very true.. to progress there has to be risk... Just before all the tragedy people thought that going out into space was a sure thing and that nothing could happen to the astronauts (or at least they loved to romanticize it that way) but they got their rose-colored glasses taken away from them after those tragedies struck ;( Dasvide: its all the video coverage. if you read it in a newspaper it isnt as real. if you watch it on live t.v. it hits you like a ton of bricks. if you change how you look at the world you change how you feel about it and what happen in far off places gretle56: I was reading an article about going to mars where they had said that the only way man will go to mars is if it were a one way ticket. Though it sounds like a suicide mission it goes on to state that instead it would be more of a colonization mission. It would be cheaper to go every so often with people and supplies then to try to return them each time. They would be the new adam and eve of mars. Once you go up you stay there the rest of your life. And we keep sending more people and supplies. But none get a two way ride. They all stay. So who wants to go first??? I hear there are many who are willing to go. duncan124: There is no reason to stay there and the technology needed would be better directed towards robots which do what little Earthlings may want from Mars. DawnGurl: I think we will certainly go to Mars but it will take a global effort to manage that. NASA doesn't have the funds by itself for such a huge undertaking. duncan124: NASA has constantly mislead people about Mars. I don't know why, perhaps it has also reasoned that there is not many good reasons to go to Mars. But if that was the case then why has it ignored evidence that shows Mars to be a difficult planet for Humans? ghostgeek: I heard about that one way Mars trip. Seems people are up for it. I have my doubts though. It means going without a lot of the things we take for granted, like dentists. Whoever goes better take a pair of pliers with them. DawnGurl: That one way trip was a publicity stunt for something...I forget what. I hesitate to think we are collectively that insane as to send people on a one way trip to Mars. Then again....... ghostgeek: Mars One I think it's called. Some private outfit. If you want a chance to go to Mars in 2124 they're recruiting. Also cadging for money. 78000 have supposedly applied. http://www.mars-one.com/ duncan124: More Media crime. Its generally against the law everywhere to offer something you don't have to sell. What are they selling?= An opinion poll. Corwin: Mars-One is a media stunt promoting a proposed new reality TV show, where they stick a bunch of mismatched people in a mock-up of a Mars habitat in the desert, and let the conflict of personalities begin as they're all cooped up with each other. People volunteering to "go to Mars" on the fabled Mars-One are in reality just volunteering to be on the TV show. But regarding the OP, to be technical about it, NASA has already gone to Mars many times, soft-landing on the surface for the first time with Viking 1 and 2 back in 1976... they just haven't sent people there yet. But at the rate that the US is going, and cutting more and more of the NASA budget each year, I'm betting that if they ever do get their sorry butts to Mars, they'll find the place overrun with Chinese people. duncan124: Yeah but we know they will now fake any Mars project and this type of thing is fishing to find out what people want to happen. Corwin: WTF?? I'm a racist?? That was a commentary of how the Chinese are, at the moment, rapidly developing their space program.... while the US is cutting their space-program back more and more each year. So I'm saying that it's a good bet that China will put a man on Mars first. How is that racist? | Science Chat Room 3 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
