Do you believe in Aliens? (Page 190) kittybobo34: The thing is carbon based life works because carbon is such a versatile element. Not sure any other combination would work as well kittybobo34: just thinking of all the different proteins that make life work, with out the versatility of the carbon atom, dont think it would be possible,, perhaps a very simple version of life based on silicone lgs1013: It stands to reason, based on pure logic, that an infinite universe would contain an infinite variety of intelligent life forms. Numerically, it follows that life as we know it may represent a tiny percentage in our universe kittybobo34: From what's been seen so far, the earth like planets are generally much larger than ours. Such a planet would generate very small creatures, because of the greater gravity, with the exception of ocean going fauna, they would be gigantic. longpigchef: Assuming gravity has the same effect on life as earths. They may have developed bodies that hug the ground and can withstand more force ghostgeek: Given how weird things can get here on earth, I suppose just about anything could be lumbering around on a planet far, far away. There again, why should we assume that life needs a planet to lumber on? ghostgeek: If life based on a different sort of chemistry to Carbon existed on earth, would we necessarily recognise it? longpigchef: Just look at viruses? They do not meet our definition of life, yet they behave as life would. How can that be, if they are not alive? longpigchef: Perhaps the very planets, or even stars are, in some way, living bodies acting intelligently.... kittybobo34: Anything is possible, they recently found that those groves of Aspen trees are actually just one tree, all connected underground. kittybobo34: hmmm so am I, I get it now, this way they we have little alien kids instead of humans, that explains allot.
