Why are so many anti science? This includes anti GMO, anti vaccine, anti evolution, and believing in woo. (Page 6) arnym: @Terry: I used the concepts of black holes and climate change simply as examples of 'scientific' subjects that a person might feel they have reason to be skeptical about, but nevertheless may choose to believe in. I thought I had already explained that. I tried anyway - sorry if I failed. I'm interested in many subjects and in discussing them - even black holes if it's done in a civil, respectful and open-minded way; rather out of curiosity and a desire to explore a subject than to dispute about fixed-in-stone opposing positions. As for Google: Of course I use it too but I'm aware that it's a commercial enterprise that caters to its customer base by manipulating which alleged facts get shown to which users. Even more suspect is youtube content and lately, when I Google something, the first results that come up are youtubes. If one pays attention it's not long before obvious contradictions & outright falsehoods show up. So generally I look more to the library for information. I suppose we could have a discussion about why or whether that can be a more reliable source. terryanderson1986: You can actually disregard the top suggestions and get real data and facts from reputable sources ..... google is a library .... it has everything fact fiction horror arnym: "google is a library .... it has everything fact fiction horror" That's right but it's a library that decides what to present to you and how to present it, based on 1) what it "thinks" (calculates) you'll be most interested in and 2) what its sponsors and biggest customers would like you to see. Maybe not in that order of priority. If I enter the description of a subject in the google search bar it's liable to come up with a couple of hundred references to some rock group that's unaccountably chosen those words for its name. When I said I prefer the (traditional) library I should have added that I frequently buy books if I can't find them there. I do appreciate the co-operative nature of public libraries though, and the social cohesion they add to the community. Besides, they're cheap . (Edited by arnym) theHating: im sorry youre mad cuz google wont let you see the scum of the internet, but you cant knock google. arnym: @theHating; Wow, another sorry one! That's so draining. Maybe you can get together with Terry and share your sorrows. Console each other; sob together, maybe. (Post deleted by theHating ) arnym: "do you think 9/11 was an inside job?" Not a question relevant to this topic, but: The collapse of the world trade towers in New York happened outside but the planning for it was no doubt accomplished indoors.
