Creationism is a mental illness (Page 173) kittybobo34: Been allot of discoveries in Archaeology lately with the GobekliTepe, and Karahan Tepe finds. Seems like they find a new hominid skull every week now too. TheloniousSphereMonk: Cept for archeology that confirms the existence of a city mentioned in the Bible or some such thing... Nicotina: There have been numerous archaeological finds that support a small part of the bible. Such finds confirm history, they do not confirm Creationism. kittybobo34: The Egyptian version of the Exodus is fairly interesting. In that the Hebrews are the bad guys. All the plagues Egypt was experiencing from the volcano in the great sea ruined their economy, they had no work for the Hebrews and were sent home, The Hebrews were then raiding the towns as they went North to the Reed sea. Pharaoh sent his army after them, but the army stopped at the edge of the Reed sea, there was no water. Pharaohs generals knew that when the water retreats it comes back as a great wave. They stayed on the hill and watched the waters return with great force, surely destroying any who were out there. Reports from the Egyptian forts on the way to Palestine reported no Hebrews had shown up thereby proving they were destroyed....... This was on the walls of the mid level tombs (for the upper classes) There was a special on TV , Reported by the minister of Antiquities, before the government was overthrown. BelgianStrider: It is quite strangely surprising how history is "remembered" by the "witnesses of opposing camps" (Edited by BelgianStrider) BelgianStrider: @Nicotina: some archaelogical finds even confirm parts of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey... And still, nobody believe those epic poems are historically reliable. And the bible has to be completely reliable; historically and scientifically??? (Edited by BelgianStrider) BelgianStrider: may be, what I do understand is that just a small part of both "tales" are historically based. Nobody has the opinion the Iliad is a historically reliable source. Though some are convinced the bible is completely historically correct and totally accurate. That is my point... (Edited by BelgianStrider) kittybobo34: For those that believe in the bible, it has to be historically accurate, After all its the guided works of God, if not then it has to admit to being an attempt at history by primitive man. BelgianStrider: @Nicotina: Never said that either. I just say for some (that does not mean you) the bible IS historically and scientifically accurate. BelgianStrider: @kittybobo: You can believe in the bible without being specifically a litteral interpreter and claiming it is historically and scientifically accurate. It is quite remarkable that those litterals are "incredibly devoted" fanatical baptists, evangelicans and C° (fanatical muslims, orthodox jews - well those fanatical "abrahamic religious" zealots - are no better btw) (Edited by BelgianStrider) BelgianStrider: yes, true but I still did not say you are thinking the bible is historically accurate. Seems I expressed my idea incorrectly. So let me rephrase it: There has been archaelogical finds that are mentionned in Homer's Iliad, though no one will be convinced or come with the (stupid) idea that epos is historically accurate and can be used as historical reference. There are some archeaological finds that are mentionned in the bible, and some fanatical religious zealots, use that as evidences (in my opinion excuses) for considering the bible historical and scientific accurate and thus use it as a historical and scientific reference (That fact is in my opinion the most idiotic and hilarous standpoint). Normally most know that that book is in nothing better than the Iliad. (Edited by BelgianStrider) kittybobo34: As one reads the bible, one has to keep in mind both the point of view in the story and the lack or any actual research into what was happening elsewhere. ghostgeek: The priests who compiled the Bible weren't interested in what was happening elsewhere. All they wanted to do, and what they did, was monopolize religious worship at the temple in Jerusalem. I guess it beat working for a living. BelgianStrider: quite interesting that "Epicurean paradox" https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/713054710294380645/865610046805114900/RDT_20210716_1704523494374033381911529.jpg (Edited by BelgianStrider) AretoNyx: I had a playlist on religious education of sorts and another on evolution science...you tube hid my own play lists from me.
