Creationism is a mental illness (Page 5)

There is more evidence for UFOs delivering unicorns to earth than the creationist theory.

Geoff: But Blackshoes is. Or at least claims to be.

They're not the only Christians to accept evolution. The Anglican church accepted the fact of evolution before Darwin and Wallace even explained the driving force behind it.

It seems to only be the fundamentalist branches of Christianity, particularly those in the US, that deny the science. It's not even like they're very populous, it's just that stupidity tends to be noisy.

But as Evolution is just part of the religious belief order and there is no evidence to support it, it is not science and only a belief.

The Christians have an Anti or Negative as part of their world order.

Geoff: Evolution is not a part of the religious belief, it is science which has been accept by those who follow the religious belief in much the same way they've accepted germ theory.

And one more time, from the top, there is adequate evidence of evolution for it to the most accepted explanation of the diversity of life on this planet.

Geoff: What is referred to as the "neo-Darwinian synthesis" (combining Darwinian drive to adaptation with our understanding of genetics) does have a whole lot of evidence. While there are gaps in our knowledge, that because of the sheer size of the living domains requiring study. It's a losing strategy for Creationists to point at the gaps and cry that it's not "true", as those gaps are being filled on a constant basis. Eventually they will leave themselves nowhere to turn.

AlienFlyer: The ones on this post questioning evolution seem to think that scientists haven't thought about or asked the same questions they have. But the reality is not only have they asked these questions but they also found answers to these questions. Just because the answers contradict the line of thinking that you have wholeheartedly and spiritually invested in doesn't mean they are wrong.

Geoff: Would you say that their acceptance of the sky as blue was religious?

Many of the aspects of interest to religious organisations, especially the Vatican which actually is its own country, are not religious, but sociological and political.

In the case of evolution, yes there are some religious elements in their specific interpretation of how that science adjust their world view, but it is not a core element of their faith.

duncan124:
The Catholic church investigated Creationists to see if they were mentally ill reaching its conclusion in about 1980.

The Church was compelled to reveal what sociological and political activities it was undertaking by the US laws protecting individuals.

Search for " what Catholics say about Creationists " and you will find a lot of sites and you will be quickly lead on to Big bang theory.

It seems to me that the Church is absorbing these beliefs.

lgs1013: To ignore or deny the need of man that there be a Divine Creator is denying your nose. It's who we are. The belief in God, as religion, has certainly cost many lives. But the spread of beliefs that Jesus taught saved many more. You may call it myth, but your opinions are no more merited to a belief system that works.
Religion was oppressive, but life was also.
But the thought of spontaneous accidental matter just appearing is no less foolish to some. Everything, after all, has an origin. So I ask you, who is being closed minded now?

xylance: The purpose and need for the Christian God is to keep mans ego in check.
It is the Christian world we refer to as "the developed world" it was the Christian world who abolished slavery, introduced human rights, women's rights, free speech, innovation and advancement in all areas of science, technology, industry, education, art, rule of law to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me god. Because as Jesus said, "only the truth can set you free."
Atheists have thrown out christian values, and now slavery is back on the increase. We have politicians setting the moral code, which is enforced by law, leaders without fear of reproach, free speech under attack from all angles, the truth unimportant it is political correctness that matters, the crime of disagreeing or hating the approved narrative. Even in the field of science. Look at climate change, the idea of science having an hypothesis that you are not allowed to test is not science at all.
Atheism has been on the rise since the media began promoting it. So well dumb on your "free thinking"

Geoff: Evolution is not contrary to Christian faith. Although one can also say that the Christian faith was responsible for all sorts of atrocities (such as the genocide in the Americas ), and it was only in the post-Christian, rational world of the Enlightenment which brought about the benefits mentioned in the quote you cite.

Geoff: Science has no overarching tenets but discovery. That being said, all modern reputable scientific institutes follow the guidelines as set out by the Nuremberg Code, the Declaration of Helsinki, and the Belmont Report when it comes to biomedical research with human test subjects.

That some people have in the past carried out atrocities in the pursuit of knowledge, in contravention of both legal restrictions on human experimentation as well as basic morality, is because they were human, not because they were scientists. Nor does it diminish the role of enlightenment philosophy which did away with all the superstition, cruelties, and even torture implements so beloved of their "god-fearing" predecessors.

The point of the title of the thread, " Creationism is a mental illness " is the fear that religion and science have too much in common.

Evolution really is bad for you.

Geoff: No, the point of the thread is that ignoring the wealth of evidence against a literal interpretation of the biblical creation story by someone presumably intelligent enough to function independently in the modern world is evidence of a number of psychological disorders.
