We have quite a bit of proof via the fossil record to know that None of todays species existed in the past. That alone proves descent.
We have real evidence of trans species today. just open your eyes.

kittybobo34: Abiogenesis : The research is ongoing, that is how they have narrowed it down to the volcanic vents in the deep ocean trenches. There is always the Panspermia idea too, time will tell.

Transspecies: Its not opinion that horses/donkeys, lions/tigers/ or in human recorded history Encertina salamanders were all once one species, and now are two. That is fact.

The microbiological avenue is sexual reproduction and its known ability to induce change in each generation of a species

PS, Looked into the Hippo comment, seems they have the similar DNA and a tiny but unique Ear bone that closes off the ear canal as whales do. Therefore Hippos were considered cousins of the whale. but not its ancestor.
