Evolution is bankrupting morality kittybobo34: Wondering how evolution is bankrupting morality, Perhaps those that are moral out of fear of their God just don't get the concept; of being moral our of a sense of personal honor. theHating: Probably has something to do with eugenics and nazi science. But I'm just here to be an expert. kittybobo34: I guess they are ignoring the fact that people also killed for their religion too, so is religion bankrupting morality? namenotrick: Nothing to do with science. You could argue this philosophically but even then there's no substance to your argument kittybobo34: Religious fanatics generally have the opinion that morality comes from religion. I disagree, morality is a part of human culture no matter what religion is in force. I think instead religion has taken on the cloak of morality. Christianity once was ok with sending kids into battle as cannon fodder, because the opinion at the time was that they didn't get a soul until maturity. Abortion was considered ok in certain circumstances. mrsmargaret48: Evolution that worked well, Stalin was a fan and Hitler was a believer in social Darwinism. Morality as nothing to do with human culture (thank God), its foundation is religion and specifically the ten commandments even many atheists acknowledge that. As for Christianity sending kids into battle when did you make up that fantasy. The NT does not say send kids into battle which if you ever bothered reading it you would know, morality includes telling the truth. As for the view that the soul comes with maturity sounds like some New Age or Gnostic invention. kittybobo34: And yet the 10 commandments were Egyptian covenants before the bible picked them up. The Hebrews managed to pick something up from the civilization of Egypt. kittybobo34: Slavery and incest were pretty common world wide. By the way, the Hebrews were not slaves, they were employed by the state. Paid as most were in beer, bread, and housing. mrsmargaret48: I must be reading a different history book and I guess all them historians and archaeologists no nothing. kittybobo34: The historians and archaeologists are who I am quoting, The high school history books from the 50's seem to be what you are familiar with. | Science Chat Room Similar Conversations |
