zeffur: Lamb is too gamey, imo & I rarely eat seafood--given how much mercury is in them these days. The taste isn't worth the chelation therapy to remove the heavy metal.

kittybobo34: In Iceland you would have to add horse to the menu, they don't use cows. I think its a bit more tasty than beef.

kittybobo34: it is, most of what they serve in restaurants is a cross between bison and beef. Same with Elk, There is a deer called elk in Australia that is mass produced to feed the restaurant system,, so it doesn't taste like real Elk. Had some Alligator in Florida, that is an interesting meat,, its like Pollock, it can be made to taste like anything else.

ghostgeek: I thought we were living in unprecedented times where the climate was concerned?

Hammersmith Bridge has been closed to pedestrians after cracks in the structure worsened following the recent heatwave.

The 133-year-old bridge was closed indefinitely to motorists in April 2019 after "critical faults" in the cast iron casing were found.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council shut the bridge to pedestrians and cyclists at 17:00 on Thursday. ...

The closure comes after temperatures surpassed 34C in central London for the sixth day in a row on Wednesday - the first time that has happened since at least 1961.

So in 1961, it seems, it was pretty hot as well.

zeffur: Lol@people being overly concerned with the high temp of 34C (93.2F). It's commonly 100+F in TX during Jul-Aug with feels-like temps between 107-115F (41.6C-46.1C), due to the high humidity level. Although, the past few years have been cooler than the peak temps that we experienced during the last solar maximum in 2011.

Sir Loin: 6 days at 34+ is a pleasantly warm spell in summer here, 6 days at 40+ is hot and definitely swimming weather. We had 2 or 3 spells over 40 last summer and spent a lot of time in the river.
