The addiction

rodgump1979
rodgump1979: The fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity.

It's like a cult it takes over your mind and your body, and allows you to escape reality temporarily. When you come back to reality, it's not so fun so you escape again. This becomes a pattern and now you never live in reality and become an addict... to see the rest of the article you can visit my website, http://nicholson.webs.com/apps/blog/

edricleeboneham: Hows that any different from anything anybody else does? People are addicted to status, self image, money, etc etc, etc. The only difference is that some people spend time helping others, so they're less bad. Now some believe that a counter to a hedonistic life is a life of piety. Like Meditation, and rejecting consumer society, etc.

Jerommeke: In fact thinking of positive things can create a positive environment, without the use of drugs.
But for some people it is not so easy to access this state of mind without the "stuff".

Comandante FiLTH: What I'll say is limited since I'm basing it on personal experience and observation.

I view it as filling that hunger/void continually with things that will never truly fill it. There are voids which will never be able to be 'filled' whether through an addiction or going through it with no assistance. It's not something you tell/share with everyone and maybe as a society we need to change that approach. It's something very strong and can't be done away with with 'positive thinking', it takes a lot out of a person to step out of an addiction and get back to 'reality' or the problems which were initially 'escaped' from.... it's harder to manage demons and be at that place where you have to address them all the time with no support or mental distraction but it can be done and has to be, at least for me because I have responsibilities.

There're also those who try out a substance for whatever reason and later find themselves addicted to it, not with the intent of filling a void but now they have developed one.

We find that addictive quality in all of us... The need for a painkiller. The want to go towards something that eases our agitations.. As Edricle pointed out there are different things to be addicted to. Love can be an addiction, creating a person as a drug, power an addiction..the list can continue into things we don't really consider an addiction because it doesn't pose an outward problem. Maybe it becomes a problem if the individual becomes a dependent or it is self-destructive? Either case it's an important issue... I have more thoughts on it but this is lengthy enough.
