"Hey can you go to the shop and *mumble mumble mumble* "

TexanAbroad: Males and females are both products of biological natural selection. Their nervous systems, like all of their other organs, have evolved to facilitate the replication of their genes. For males, this means impregnating as many females as possible. For females, this means getting a reliable partner to provide protection and sustenance.

This leads to different behaviors -- although we are still ignorant of how our evolved nervous sysems actually influence our behavior, and of course with humans, there is a 'cultural' overlay that can modify our nature-driven impulses: for example, while widespead rape of the women of a conquered nation is a natural male impulse, it can be contained somewhat by a 'cultural' imperative against rape.

But at root, this is why women and men find it difficult to understand each other. Their genes are whispering very different things to them.

FunkyBiscuits82: Tex, I don't think rape is a male impulse. I think there are good males and bad males, and the traits they share are not used in the same way, bc humans evolved to think beyond animal instincts and to recognize and exercise personal choice. One man choses to rape the woman, another man choses to protect the woman. I don't think the latter type of man would just start rapin' peeps if given the chance to do so without punishment. Just as the former type of man doesn't stop wanting to or trying to rape women, even when it's against the law.

Communication problems have little to do with gender, in my opinion. It's more about the fact that a lot of people are with someone whom they are not really compatible with.

Males and females actually are naturally compatible. We are literally made to fit together. When it doesn't work, it's not bc of gender, it's because of the individuals involved. Plenty of men and woman communicate just fine.

FunkyBiscuits82: Num, really, yes. Good men will still look at the cleavage, but they won't make a woman feel weird about it. Not-so-good men don't mind making the woman feel gross. And gay men look at boobs in more an admiring way, rather than sexual.
