GERMANY. :

GERMAN. : JULIUS PLUCKER. : He was born on the 16th of July, 1801 at Elberfeld, now a Municipal Subdivision of the City of Wuppertal, North Rhine Rhine-Westphalia, Dusseldorf, Germany was then a Town in it's own right in the then Duchy of Berg in The Holy Roman Empire, not really 'Germany' at the time, but the Region that it was in was referred to as Germany. The Capital of it was Dusseldorf in 1801.

In 1836 when he lived at Bonn he became a Physics Professor at Bonn University. While he was there, at the University, in 1858 he published the first of his classical research about the action of the Magnet on the electrical discharge on rare forms of Gas, that was after a Year of working with Vacuum Tubes of his Bonn Colleague named Heinrich Geissler. He found that the discharge caused a Fluorescent glow to form on the Glass Walls of the Vacuum Tube and that the glow could (at the time) be made to shift by applying an Electromagnet to the Tube, thus it created a Magnetic Field. It was later shown that the glow was produced by Cathode Rays. See the Topics named Julius Plucker, Heinrich Gleissner, as well as that of other names and links within those Topics at Wikipedia. Bonn, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany in 1836 was a State of The German Confederation under The Kingdom of Prussia, the region was referred to as Germany, this situation ended though part way through 1866.
