Jadzia n: Okay, just a quick update to those of you giving me great tech support on Ubuntu. I now have it on the same hard drive with win7. My laptop runs great on ubuntu. I still can't get windows programs to install after I installed Wine. The programs start to install only to get so far and get a sorry about your luck message, and not install. With the passing of my mother last month I have decided to put this on hold till I can devote my full attention to this project. Thanks again guys for your time.

Cao Xue Kin: I find that usually people seem to prefer an OS that they learned on (techies excluded). The best idea Apple had was to donate PC's to schools, (especially graphic design) The instructors I had all learned on Mac's and knew nothing about other PC's
When I was in college I worked in a university graphics computer lab, I found Macs to be expensive, with limited hardware & software, then Motorola tried the StarMax, (affordable but a failure) I laugh when I remember the department purchased 30 new pretty G-3's not one had a floppy drive, so the school purchased a server so students could save their work, the department head was so happy he was foaming at the mouth, he had a Red Hat Server to play with. then he got a better job & quit, NO ONE had any knowledge of Linux, Personally I like Windows, I am using Win 7 Pro now and have Win 8.1 pro on my laptop. I have not used a Mac since OS6. My ex likes her Macbook, because she thinks she doesn't need to pay for anti virus or internet security (yea she is cheap). But it is often in the shop, she will not admit why. I also use virtual machine software to try to learn Linux, nice system, but it was hard if not impossible to find simple drivers for my printers & scanners. As far as windows, other than eyewash there have not been many real changes since Win 98 se, especially in graphics, as I recall a 98 machine had a max RAM of 512 MB, I held my breath as I installed my first XP with 1 Gb Ram. I hate how Windows comes out with a new OS every few years, and now new PC's cannot run older versions starting with Win 8, I don't know about Vista as I refused to have anything to do with it.I have only seen one Win 10 PC. All in all I believe the best OS is the one a person is most comfortable with.

Cao Xue Kin: I remember trying to do a clean install of Win 7 on a New Laptop that came with Win 8... didn't work either, I even used a different HDD no luck. there was something with the CMOS that blocked downgrades I guess. lol

Lifesavour: Got tired of bluescreens and fixing windows, got ubuntu. That was a decade back and not a problem. No driver issues, crazy pile of apps, completely free, supports all the sandboxes so you can add as many windows os as you need and keep them locked. Dual boot works like a charm too if you Have to have a wondoze on tap.
Open source and completely revisable if you like getting under the hood, no secrets.
There's linux versions so small you can boot off tiny flash drives and never touch the computers memory.
The folks who maintain it are approachable and no proprietary poop.
Windoz only has a seamy marketing ploy that got them on every new computer back in the day. That's why everyone loves it, they've been force fed pablum and don't know there's better.

paulsch5412: Personally I have used OS's since Windows XP was new (back in the early 2000s). I have seen the progression of Windows and how they had to overcome problems with glitches and hacking which caused blue screen errors. If you stick with Windows and try to understand Windows10 (home edition) you might find this company has a good OS and doesn't rely on bragging unlike the Apple/Macintosh companies - who I personally think are snooty.
