Space Elevator (The Epic Tower) (Page 2) Zereous Excentris: Allright let me explain this another way... If You have magnets on a sky Scraper and they are all Opposit polls to each other would the tower be crushed under force if you turned those magnets on Corwin: The weight would remain the same. The magnetic fields may not be crushed, but the structures between them could just as easily be. If you crush your electromagnet holding structures, what's the difference? Zereous Excentris: damn it why is it hard to understand what is happaning here... I have such a hedech over this.. UUugghhhh its so simple.. The Weight is Displaced through the magnets Why.. Because each and every magnet Repels Each other and the base magnet on the ground repels the magnets above it and the magnet above that is repeled by that magnet all of the magnets at each and every hight is Repeling each other the base magnet is repeling more so to keep that magnet up.. Damn it why dont you understand what is happaning Zereous Excentris: its like adding the tower stops the magnets from pushing away from each other or something like the magnetic field does nothing at all or something.. they push here they push there they push everyware along the hight of that tower and all of the weight goes down those magnets to the base magnet through the magnetic forces Corwin: I understand... I just don't see what you have to gain by building a tower this way... the whole structure will weigh 10 times what it would if you just built it out of aluminum or something and forgot about magnets. The lower structures between your magnetic fields are still going to be 10 times more likely to be crushed. Zereous Excentris: sure the weight is there YES that is true but the fact that the magnets want to RISE from each other pushing with magnetic forces cancels that out Corwin: The magnets don't "rise" by themselves, just like any support structure they're being supported from below. Magnets do not defy Gravity. Corwin: They don't "float" on top of each other, they "sit" on top of each other... the repulsive magnetic field is just another kind of support structure... MAGNETS DO NOT DEFY GRAVITY. Corwin: They're not "displacing weight", they're simply "supporting weight"... the weight is STILL THERE. Zereous Excentris: yes they are SUPPORTING WEIGHT exactly my point.. I dont care if you lighten the tower by building it out of whatever but the POINT IS.. they are SUPPORTING weight Corwin: So what are you gaining by building a tower 10 times heavier than an aluminum one? Just the thrill of knowing that you used electromagnets to do it? | Technology Chat Room Similar Conversations |
