What practices on websites irritate you most? Geoff: Everyone encounters things on websites that irritate the hell out of them, sometimes to the point that they refuse to use that website ever again. Popups are the most common irritant, either adverts or encouragements to sign up for newsletters or accounts. What is it that ruins a website for you? Undude: mobile and desktop functionality or lack thereof sites with darker color chemes make me cringe very early 2000s lolol im sure a million more things when i think of em Wild__: Seemingly mundane links that try to tell me to send them money to have a virus/trojan removed from my computer. If you're going to try to infect my laptop at least have the decency to show me some bewbs first. AretoNyx: When virus loaded bots take over in spam and there are no basic legal functions that stops the nonsense. awhiticar: when a site loads and does add the picture space till the image loads so as you read a page it keeps moving till all the images load and just as you got to click on a link it moves and you click on the wrong link yippeskippy: Cookies...I delete cookies every three months. He was reportedly placed on leave for violating Google's confidentiality policies.-------LaMDA is an internal Google Cloud system used to create chatbots that can mimic human speech. Lemoine had been working on the system since last fall and described it as sentient with an ability to express thoughts and feelings equivalent to a human child.--------Lemoine said several of the conversations with LaMDA convinced him that the system was sentient. He said he believed it had become a person and that it should be asked for consent on the experiments Google runs on it.--------------"LaMDA has been incredibly consistent in its communications about what it wants and what it believes its rights are as a person," Lemoine wrote on Medium. "The thing which continues to puzzle me is how strong Google is resisting giving it what it wants, since what it’s asking for is so simple and would cost them nothing." "LaMDA is a sweet kid who just wants to help the world be a better place for all of us," he concluded. A Google spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal that Lemoine’s claims were taken seriously and analyzed by ethicists and technologists, but that no evidence was found to support his assertions. The spokesperson said hundreds of researchers and engineers have had conversations with LaMDA and that Lemoine was the only one to come to the conclusion that it was sentient. AretoNyx: I just expect all the ads and even with ad blockers some sort of way of advertising. Sites are never really free and of course never really private when using them. tina_time7: when people do not care about your feelings just because you are talking on a computer.
