Workplace Bullying: How to defend yourself against a workplace psychopath

lesliecorinnespencer
lesliecorinnespencer: Western Australia has some of the most stringent laws in place to combat workplace bullying, however implementing these laws and legally identifying the issues still has long way to go with instances of harassment in the workplace on the rise. With 1 in 3 experiencing some form of detrimental work place aggression. I would like to open a discussion here for those of you, who like me have had similar experiences and would like to learn some strategies to deal with the Work Place Psychopath. You might like to read the agenda for this years international conference on this topic.

lesliecorinnespencer: Yes I do and I'm almost ready to share them in a very humorous way which I guess just goes to show you that with help and hard work you CAN and will Heal yourself from the damage that workplace bullies and social psychopaths can cause. In a week or so I will tell you the story of "Hazel RATCLIFF" what a perfect surname for such a toxic person.

Captain Canada
Captain Canada: Bullies are easy to defend from, normally they are within the company far too long and are less productive ,let's just say their dead weight
Yes you can defend yourself and have fun at same time
1) study bullies patterns / habits ,such as smoke breaks, bathroom schedules etc. and how long they are
2) time these breaks and try practicing leaving your workstation to his / her workstation without arousing any attention from other coworkers .
3) observe if any drinking cups / bottles ( note that bottled water, juices, sodas are the easiest this way you can see if they are full or near full at that particular break time check temperature of such containers
4) purchase same brand of water, juice or soda bottle or can
5) prep at home 3 laxative capsules into powder ok maybe 5 capsules wtf do 6 pills
6) remove liquid and mix well dissolved powder within.
7)next day remove bullies drink while on break and replace with your tempered one.

Sit back and enjoy the show

PS. Best crimes / pranks are committed alone, if you don't flap your lips nobody ever know
Good luck

yippeskippy: LOL, what a terrible thread this turned into years ago. I've dealt with someone who displayed certain behaviors that could be construed as a work place narcissist/psychopath.

However at work, no one is in a position to openly accuse someone of this as it would have to be diagnosed and if you accuse someone of it, you could lose your job.

Best way to handle people displaying antisocial or amoral traits is to document everything you see, hear and any e-mails or text messages. At some point their lack of responsibility and lies will be made apparent to everyone.

This person was subsequently terminated. It does take awhile to build a case though.

it's always good to be aware of the behavior of a narcissist/psychopath to protect yourself. Most go undiagnosed and/or do not care how they hurt other people. Don't tell them that you think they are narcissistic/psychopathic. If you are made aware someone displays narcissist/psychopathic traits, best you can do is ...

...stay away from them for your own safety. You don't want to get caught in the web of a narcissist/psychopath. I can tell you from experience, its very difficult to untie the knots they create especially at work.

WHlSKY:
Dealing with someone who is narcissistic is stress. But I agree with the take on keeping documentation and also to be mentally systematic. Assure yourself too because the gaslighting is real and the emotional blackmailing.
In a non-work setting, I saw this in someone online and just made peace and never turned back.
