gnsha: He is a Qilin. A mythical animal, related to dragons in Chinese folklore. Unlike dragons, except vegetarian (note the deer-like horns, square teeth, and hooves). Like unicorns in Europe, the qilin is very auspicious - they only visit the most noble kings and the most beautiful virgin women. A popular brand of Japanese beer Kirin, uses the Japanese word for this animal, and you can see it on the beer's label.
