The Creation of the Cosmos

At the start of all was Net, born the first, in the time when as yet there had been no birth. She, being the North of the Wall was also the prime craftsman of the universe, Petah, being the South of the Wall. With his anguish he created Anpu and his consort Anput, who were the lords over the dead and the creators of the Duat. With Petah’s thoughts and wisdom he created Djehuti and his consort Seshat, who are the creators of all knowledge and wisdom and the creators of language. It was they who formed the first word and taught it to Petah who in turn pronounced it.
In his saying the first word, Hu, he created the Primordial Sea. Within it were the eight primal gods of creation: Imen/et the god of all that is hidden; Hah/et, the god of infinity and the eternal; Keku/t the god of pure darkness; and Nenu/t the Primordial Sea itself. Along with these, Hu formed Meskhanet who created the Ka and breathed it into all life as well as Nehebeka who swam in the Primordial Sea and who unites the Ka and Ba to all things, even the gods. As well came forth Renenutet, who gives the true names to all things and who protects children with one look. So too was created Sahu who created the incorruptible soul of all things, including the gods. Iusaaset, the grandmother of the gods birthed forth Mut, the self-created goddess of creation and mother of the gods, who then spit into the Primordial Sea and from it rose Tatenen, the primordial mound and creator of the mortal world. Djehuti, as the Great Crackler laid an egg on the mound which in being warmed by Mut as a vulture, hatched into the creator god Khenem, whom Meskhamet breathed in his Ka, Nehebeka united his Ka and Ba, and Renenutet who named him. Khenemu fashioned all that is physical including the bodies of humans. The spit of Mut also created Heka, the embodiment of all magic and spirit. Heka created Sai, the god of fate who chooses the length of life and Hemsetu, the goddesses who determines the destiny of all things.
Khenemu then masturbated and upon release created the Celestial god of Order, Haru-Wer; the Destructive god of Chaos, Sut; and the Celestial goddess of the universe, Het-Har. Het-Har in turn created the galaxy, Bat and also the joy of music, the child Ai. Haur-Wer formed the rest of the universe including Ma’at, the goddess of truth, order, and justice. He formed the stars with his wings and created Khensu, the god of the moon and it’s light; Khepri, the god of the rising sun who is a child; Re, the god of the noonday sun who is a man; and Item, the elderly god of the sunset. These were his two eyes. He sent forth his eye Re, the winged disc, to watch over the world, whos name is Haru-Behedeti. He also created his Four Sons: Duamutef, the solar god of the East; Hapi, the solar god of the North; Imseti, the solar god of the South; and Qebehsenuef, the solar god of the West. A daughter to Re was born, Baset, who has the fierceness of a lioness and the playfulness of a cat. The sun gods then gave off Shu, who is the life giving light and air and also Tefnut who is the moisture that is of life. These two together created Geb, the Earth who in turn created Aset, who is the seed of life, and Asir the god of rebirth, fertility, and death and who was the first ruler of both life and death; and Nepthys who embraces and comforts those in death. Anpu/t then created Qebehut and gave her the charge of preserving the dead.
Mut created many other gods and assigned them tasks to preserve the creations of Petah. She created Apep, the demon lord of destruction and annihilation and evil in the night and Taweret, the demon goddess of destruction and evil in the day. She also created Bes, and assigned him as guardian of the home and children; Kherti, who would be death himself and whose first death was that of Asir himself; Mehan, who would be the coiled snake that defends Re; Menchu, who would be assigned as the scorching heat of the sun; Renpet, the young goddess of youth, spring, and life; Shesmu, who was assigned as executioner of the wicked by Judgement of Asir in the Duat; Saa, who was assigned as the Perceiver and energy of all; Seker, who was assigned over the maintenance of the Duat and watcher of the dead; Sepedet, who is Sirius the star; Weneg, who was to protect the order of the universe and fight off Apep and Taweret; Wepwawet, who was assigned as guide for the dead, and Neferetem who is the blue lotus and god of the perfumes and incense of the world.
