"Joy Comes In The Morning"

"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."
(Psalms 30:5)

Joy comes in the morning. Ok. But, when does morning come? (Fair question.)

God promised us this would be true. But, what if the morning doesn’t come tomorrow? I don’t mean what if tomorrow never comes, but rather, what if tomorrow isn't the morning when joy comes?

This isn't a promise built on the premise of “sleep on it.”

God said joy comes in the morning, but He didn’t say the morning will always come tomorrow. God said joy comes in the morning, but He didn’t say joy is just around the corner. God said joy comes in the morning, but He didn’t say that my troubles would disappear overnight.

Joy will come. That much is certain. Light will prevail over darkness. But that joy comes on God’s timeline, not mine. Joy comes in the morning....slowly.

Nothing I have encountered thus far in my life has shown me that if I go to bed sad or hurting, it will be all better tomorrow. Sometimes the morning brings with it a fresh perspective, and rest gives us patience reserves we lacked the day before. But these aren’t joy. They are means of coping and processing. It's something deeper, something more profound. And it comes with more than just a good night’s sleep.

Circumstances don't change overnight most of the time, and neither do our lives and hearts. We change over time. We see more over time. We strain our eyes to see in the dark until they burn.

We sometimes want to give up, but we know that if we keep looking, we might see something....anything. And then dawn comes, faintly at first, then with growing light. The chill breaks, our eyes begin to make out what lies ahead. Suddenly, we realize that morning is slowly dawning. And joy comes with the morning:

"But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day." (Proverbs 4:18)

Joy comes in the morning…when God fulfills His promises. Joy comes in the morning. It doesn’t mean tomorrow. It’s not a formula that promises that you’ll feel happy at sunrise. It’s a promise that will come true when God’s sunrise breaks.

The Scriptures are full of examples of people waiting for God to fulfill His promises, and to bring His promised joy. God promised a son to Abraham. Abraham waited, and waited, and waited some more. While he waited, he experienced much grief. And Sarah deeply struggled to believe that God would indeed be true to His word.

David was promised the kingship. And then he found himself on the run from Saul, hiding in caves and pretending to be insane. Would God ever break through the bleakness of David's life and fulfill His promises?

Yes, He would. And He always does. Joy comes in the morning.....when God fulfills His good promises to us.

It means WHEN the darkness breaks. When, not IF. That's the promise, that a new day will come. It WILL come. We can make it through the dark of night because we know it’s true.

We can trust in the promises of God because we know
Joy comes with the dawn.
Joy comes with the dawning of a new season of life.
Joy comes with the light of hope and a future.
Joy comes when we can see God at work by the light of a new day.
Joy comes when the darkness of our pain and difficulty gives way to the warmth and brightness of the Holy Spirit.
Joy comes as the winter of sadness slowly gives way to the hope we find in the Word of God.

*I humbly ask to please keep my name before the Lord in prayer, for, I await this joy.*

twokwiat: Joy comes when we can see God working in others, even if they don't know it. Of course, we hope to find those we observe either having the joy of The Lord, or certainly finding it one day... and making it their own, as our sister has shared in this blog. Joy.... is... for... real.... in The Father & The Son
