This song is a cover by Johnny Cash of a Nine Inch Nails song. Trent originally wrote it at a time of addiction and you can read the despair in the lyrics. Johnny has reinterpreted it and made it his own as a song of reflection, regret, a precis of his life perhaps. Johnny Cash would be familiar to most people of my generation. While I know some of his songs it would be a stretch to say I was familiar with the catalogue. Whatever the reason for that he was still unique. The video was made not so long before his passing. I think 9 months or so. You can see how weathered and worn he is but still a fire in his eyes. A life lived with all its trials and tribulations. Behind him you will see June Carter his wife. Her appearance to me is sort of as a ghost, guardian angel at his shoulder, that constant presence. In fact she passed 6 months before he did in the same year 2003. If you want a definition of devotion and what love means, at least in it's ideal, then you have it. To say "enjoy" this song perhaps isn't the right word. Immerse yourself in it. Do it in a moment of silence. Don't be distracted with outside shit. Listen intently, look at the visuals, appreciate it's sombre tone and how the words have meaning. If you are not moved in any way by it's end then I am sorry I would have to question your understanding of the human condition. We all, after all, live in this mortal coil.
Anyway not meaning to be a downer. Love each other.
Peace Out
