If that very game is not even shown to the room, that isn't so fine. A spectator game with nothing to see isn't a fun time.
If a player has to step away, and we have no idea what's going on, and a volunteer to take their place is requested, then is some consternation, that we haven't been allowed to have any glimpse of what we'd be stepping into, really a surprise?
