Punchy: I love little toads...this guy is only about an inch big! 9 years ago • Report 1 Punchy: ya rummy...it's my favorite rock...has to be an Indian Artifact for grinding grain I have several pics of it and put it to good use for the critters! A_Kestrel: That's exactly what it is Punchy! (nice repurposing btw, loves! <3 ) This is an image from the Museum of Southeastern Indians, near you... http://www.thegagenweb.com/gacrawfo/PlacesofInterest/750-poundCornGrindingMortar.jpg Punchy: Kes...thanks for that link! This rock may well be my favorite "possession" and it was free for the finding! A lucky day that was! A_Kestrel: Awesome find! LOL sure you don't wanna come take anthro with me and let's go dig up stuff? Could use your kinda luck! rumball: i was just watching this television program about ancient native artifacts and they showed a bowl similar to this used to mill grains, it was apparently worth quite a bit of money to collectors and it was no where near as nice are as big as yours, this might have been used to grind corn for meal for centuries in that area, corn being the staple. aside from fire this may have been the most important possession and in fact the the centre piece of village life. very cool find punchy Punchy: Rummy...awesome...too bad I didn't see the program! I've often wondered if this rock would be better placed in a museum for many to admire its (unknown) history! I knew the day I found it, it was quite remarkable! A_Kestrel: Well you know my vote lol... will gladly make you a polished woodcarved replacement if you donate |
