Good morning world - Happy Thanksgiving! (a repost)

Here's a blog I posted a few years ago, and I liked it enough that I thought I'd post it again for my friends on this special day. Enjoy!

*******-*******-*******-*******-*******-*******-*******-*******-*******-*******-*******----

It’s funny! I roll over in bed and look at the clock … it’s 6:10 a.m. My body’s woken me up for work even though it’s … THANKSGIVING DAY! I smile as I crawl out from under the covers, a thousand memories from Thanksgivings past rolling through my mind. The memories make me chuckle, so I thought I’d share a few of them with you this morning. (These are in no particular order; they’re just a hodge-podge of random thoughts. Lol!)

Thanksgiving is…

The MACY’S DAY THANKSGIVING PARADE on Thanksgiving morning when I was young! My family stood out there on I think it was Gratiot Avenue in Detroit, our cheeks stinging from the cold, and I watched the glory unfold from atop my dad’s shoulders. Ohhhhh, the anticipation … Santa Claus in his WAAAAAY cool float passed by at the very end of the parade! And, who knows … I might even be able to grab one of those candy canes his elves threw into the crowd!

My mother’s hands in a mixing bowl, preparing the stuffing to cram into that 22-pound bird thawing in the fridge.

The ladies in our related family parading through the front door enroute to the kitchen - to deposit all the food they’re carrying. Mmmmmmmm … I can smell the pies!

The men of our family on the front porch discussing the football game they’ll be watching later today. It’s always someone vs. the Detroit Lions, our home team, and the Lions always lose - it’s a Thanksgiving tradition!
My dad & Uncle Bruce kidding my grandmother about the pie she DIDN’T bring! “Mmmmm, Bruce … can’t you just taste that rhubarb pie?” “Sure can … FLORENCE – how ‘bout some rhubarb pie?” “I didn’t bring any rhubarb pie this year.” “Awwwww, Florence, you know how much we just LOVE rhubarb pie! You really forgot it??? I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!” (The same scenario played out every year … my grandma remembered and made the pie they mentioned last year – she’d bring 3 pies every year -- and this year they’d tease her with the type of pie she DIDN’T bring! You know, those kinda rare ones – peach, lemon, boysenberry … whatever.)

My mom & teenage sister poring over the newspaper ads, developing their strategic battle plan for deploying and conquering at the mall.

The kids in our neighborhood out on our front yard playing the big football game. My mom used to say, “Better having them there playing football than somewhere else getting into trouble!” And my dad would say, “Yeah, but look what they’re doing to the lawn!”

Snow, and more snow! (Not EVERY year!) So we played the game in the snow … how manly does it get?!? Lol!

Christmas rock candy in the oven! Mmmmmmm! Wow, did we ever hit those sheets of candy hard and fast with the scissors when they came out … they harden in about two minutes, and you’d BETTER have ‘em cut by then! And, one year – just for the fun of it – we mismatched colors and flavors (blue cinnamon, green lemon, red spearment, etc., and more than one color per flavor). Drove my mother crazy!

Christmas music playing on the stereo shortly before we went to bed.

And finally, in my own home in recent years, giving thanks to God for the many blessings He’s bestowed on us. We’d sit around the table after our Thanksgiving feast, listing some of the many things we’re thankful for. How about you? 

So -- drop me a line and share a few of YOUR Thanksgiving memories! I’d love to hear from you!

Borrowed from Sweet Sapphire's page

You and I wake up in a police car handcuffed together. Using ONLY three words, what would you say to me?

Note: If you comment, you must copy and paste this to your status or blog, so I can comment on yours as well. Be a good sport and play along (3 word limit is hard - no copying other people!).

Wireclub problems #3

Will someone please, please help me? I still can't chat in private, and I still can't add to threads (no text boxes). I've written personal messages to mods and still have the same problems. Help pleeeeeeease???

Wireclub problems #2

Okay, I would REALLY like to get some help from a mod.

1. I can't chat with anyone in "pm" (private chat) right now.

2. I can't contribute to any of the threads. There's no text box for posts when I enter a thread.

I used to very much enjoy both of these features, and for the last few days I haven't had them at all. I tried to get some help in the "Wireclub Help" chatroom, but no one has yet helped me. Thank you very much.

Wireclub problems

Okay, just a quick question. I've been having some trouble with Wire lately. I can't "private chat," and I sometimes can't get into friends' home pages. Also, sometimes I want to comment on a thread and there's no text box for me to post with. Is anyone else having these same problems?

One Word

One Word That Describes Me (I copied this from Fancy)

Please leave me a one-word comment that best describes me, using the THIRD letter of your LAST name - it can only be ONE word - then copy this to your wall so I can leave a word about you. Don't just post a word and not copy - that's no fun.

Wow - unbelievable

Wow. Unbelievable. I just heard this morning that someone I've known and looked up to for many years just got divorced a few weeks ago, after 33 years of marriage. This is a guy I thought would be married for the duration. He and his wife really loved each other, and they were able to work through any differences they had - I guess until recently. My understanding is that the issues they had in their marriage were longstanding ones, but that doesn't minimize my feelings of deep disappointment. It's discouraging, because so many marriages have dissolved or are falling apart these days. I know several couples who have either divorced or are struggling deeply. It's hard these days to hold onto the hope of "happily ever after."

What's going on with our society and culture? Happy marriages used to abound - it seemed like you saw them all around you. I admit, I'm older than many in Wireclub, but it doesn't seem like that long ago. As a young adult I knew many happy couples - couples who were thriving and enjoying each other's company the last time I saw them. But wow - today it seems like not many people are enjoying that blessing. I think most of us hope that someday we'll be living with the person whom we can enjoy the rest of our lives. I hope that will continue to be true, and that many of us will realize that dream. Hang in there, all ... I do know that it can be done, and I do know several couples who have done it! I wish for all of you all the happiness that can be found in this life.

Go Time!

Ohhhh, you ladies will love this one! lol!

Well, our next door neighbors finally had their baby, their first. The mother was soooo cute - looking like she would was fall over forward, she was so unbalanced. And he ... well, he's been walking around for months with that smug grin on his face. You ladies know that look all too well, right? And you guys - I'm sure most of you know what he was feeling like!

And here they did all the LaMaze classes ... experts in their field. SUCH anticipation! Think of the opportunity he had to be her hero! Well, the call finally came - she was feeling those pains ... GO TIME! And was he ready? Sure ... to eat! He sat down at the table, thinking "GO TIME" meant it was time for supper!
