TODAY!!!!! Is The Day That The Proverbial Shit Hits The Fan!

Some Christian fundamentalists are once again setting themselves up for some red-faced embarrassment by committing to actual dates for the Apocalypse.

According to a Reverend Harold Camping and the website ebiblefellowship.com, Judgment Day, and the "Rapture" is going to occur on May 21, and the world is going to be consumed by fire on October 21.

For those unaware of what the Rapture is, at the Rapture, every "true" Christian (whatever that is) will suddenly disappear, leaving their clothes, dental fillings, artificial knees, etc. behind as they are whisked up to heaven. (Flying to De Moines, London, or Brisbane on that day? Better check and see if your pilot is Born-Again. It would be quite inconvenient for you if he suddenly disappears from the plane's cockpit.)

Okay. We have a date. Let's begin the countdown ... the countdown either to all that scary religious crap we've been told about, or the countdown to some embarrassed Christians.

I'll be adding a PrintScreen daily of the website as we count down to the Rapture!

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!

I've been running a Religion Forum "countdown" thread, as well as this blog:

http://www.wireclub.com/Forums/ViewTopic.aspx?ForumId=647371&ParentId=1118521

Actually, the countdown in the thread has been going on MUCH longer than here in this blog, where it's only been counting down for a month or so.

Wireclub user/troll TEDUBS, who constantly posts trollish stuff aimed at me, actually made a GREAT contribution to the thread, which I'll include here. It's a YouTube vid. It's worth looking at, although it degenerates into sermonizing at about seven and a half minutes into it:

Eye Candy For Car Freaks #7 (Photo Essay)

This is a 1933 Ford Model B truck that's been restored ... well, sort of "restored." That term generally means that the vehicle has been repaired and brought, as much as possible, to a condition like it was when it was new. This often means that new parts exactly like the originals need to be manufactured from scratch, which can be extremely expensive.

Sometimes old vehicles like this are converted into "hot rods," which is another nostalgic throwback. During the fifties and sixties, many older vehicles like this were "souped up" with newer parts, such as the engine, transmission, suspension, upholstery, etc. The idea was to have a vehicle that looked old, but was fast and powerful, with the kind of performance of newer vehicles. One of these hot rods, a converted 1929 Ford Model A coupe, can be seen in my blog from last June:

http://www.wireclub.com/Blogs/StuckInTheSixties/194229

This 1933 Ford Model B truck is sort of half restored, and half hot rod. It has the look of the original, but also has many newer aspects, such as the engine, transmission, and interior. But the general appearance is much as it appeared when it was a new vehicle seventy eight years ago.

> Karma says January 02: You should put on a vole costume.
> StuckInTheSixties says January 02: Hmm ... I've been thinking for a long time about how, within practical limitations, I could get closer to one of those things. They're pretty skittish, much more so than those vultures, which I've been able to get close enough to to get some decent pictures. Maybe a fake vole on a string or something ... Nah, I can already see the problems with doing something like that. The vole on the string would have to sit there for a long time before the circumstance happened where both the hawk and I happened to be at the right spots at the same time. By then, vegetation would have grown up enough to restrict the ability to pull that string. (It doesn't take much for that.) Solution: good camera/telephoto lens.

> SABLES says January 29: she is beautiful, looks like she is checking you out
> StuckInTheSixties says January 29: There were a group of five deer. Unbeknownst to me, they were right outside of the sliding glass door in my bedroom. Had I known, I could have gotten some really good close-up pictures, but as it was, I slid open the door and stepped out onto the porch, and all five spooked and ran off. I grabbed the camera, sneaked out the front door and circled around the house on the far side from where they had been. Only two of the five were still around, and they were very wary, having just been spooked. I wasn't able to get very close to make the pictures.

> StuckInTheSixties says January 29: Tormentress.
> MissCellaneous says January 29: That's what it says on my business card...
> SABLES says January 29: no here Frank is a horsefly, fred is a wasp
> StuckInTheSixties says January 29: So what the hell is that thing that was in my house?
> MissCellaneous says January 29: It's a parasite wasp. It lays eggs inside caterpillars, but not killing it, paralysing it, so it lies there as a big juicy food source for the babies. S'ok though. it won't sting you.
> StuckInTheSixties says January 29: I was about to comment, "Nah, it's not a wasp. I've seen those wasps on nature programs, and how they do that horrible act of laying the egg in the caterpillar, etc." But I decided to Google around a bit, and you're absolutely right. Not only that, but it's considered a beneficial insect since it tends to victimize other insects that are destructive to agriculture. In fact, in poking around, I found agriculture supply websites that sell these things to growers. What I'm puzzled about is how and why this thing, which is dependant upon caterpillars, happens to be in my house at this time of year, dead in the middle of winter. It'll be nearly two months before the first day of spring.
> MissCellaneous says January 30: You haven't dwelled for long enough on the fact that I was right...
> StuckInTheSixties says January 30: That's about as much dwelling as you're gonna get, smart-ass. But I did learn something, and I always appreciate that.
> Karma says February 01: Cool
> StuckInTheSixties says February 02: I know how you like my insect photos. That one turned out pretty well. Fairly crisp, sharp image, although I wish I'd been able to get more transparency and less shiny reflection from his wings. He was a cooperative subject. I took a few pictures, loaded them onto the computer to examine them, changed my camera settings and took more, etc. He just hung out there as I did that.

Around Napa Valley XIII

These are photos that I took around Napa Valley, where I live. > StuckInTheSixties says November 29: Persimmony, I suppose. Actually, I've never had a persimmon, and these were in someone else's yard. I was driving past and the orange against the sky caught my eye, so I stopped and took a few pictures.
> Karma says November 29: They look very orange-like, but must differ in some distinct way.
> StuckInTheSixties says November 29: (shrugs) I don't think they're citrus, like an orange or grapefruit. Wiki it.
> Karma says November 29: I never Wiki. It seems they taste a crose between a mango and an apricot.
> StuckInTheSixties says November 29: Why do you never Wiki?
> Karma says November 29: Wiki posts are posted by anyone. Anyone can edit them. They are unreliable by nature. I google and try to find a site that is more reputable for info. Having said that, I know the vast majority of Wiki is correct - but if i had a mind to I could go on Wiki and rewrite the posting for Persimmons to state that they taste like a cross between licorice and envelope glue.
> StuckInTheSixties says November 29: (laughs) And then some persimmon fanatic would correct it. Why don't you do that, and then post the Wiki link? Come on! I dare you!

> StolenHeart says November 29: ooohhhhh, lol, I hope my comment didnt offend, that was just the first thing to come to mind

> MissCellaneous says November 29: Nooooooo. girl things are Phalula! Although, taking size into account, it may be PHAloooooooooooola.

> Karma says January 23: So all the wildflowers don't sap needed nutrients that the grape plants will need? I'd have thought they'd keep it clear of other vegetation. Not that I'm complaining - This is lovely.
> StuckInTheSixties says January 23: Actually the wildflowers are a fodder. I'm not to much of an expert on this, but as I understand it, certain plants extract nitrogen from the air, and when plowed into the soil (as these wildflowers will be), make the soil better for the other plants by then providing nitrates, which is a prime ingredient in all fertilizers. Also, I'm sure that these vines will further fertilized, probably with organic fertilizer that is generated by dairies in the area.

Picture #22: Branches of a California Buckeye tree against the sky on a very warm, clear and sunny winter day

That gave the sky that cobalt blue color, and darkened a lot of the details on the branches that I would usually be trying to capture. I took a series of seven or eight pictures, increasing the exposure with each one, and chose the best of the batch.

> Tala says November 25: I didn't get one.
> Sebbyyy =) says November 25: No Worries, it's one of those "review my performance" kinda things. Rod was on last night for a while, I'm sure he must have added it.
> SABLES says November 25: I got one and I sent a message on it...nothing has happened
> lois_lane says November 25: Me too Prize. That was the first thing I thought when I saw it.
> rainbowtreat says November 26: Today was the first time I logged in in a few days and I got the same thing. Just didn't do anything with it.

Picture #10: Yet another pretty girl is interested in me ...

> StuckInTheSixties says December 26: ... and coincidentally, like all of the others, she wants my email address. I'm SURE there's no ulterior motive ...
> Teece says December 27: Well of course there isn't Sits..... Its your charm that reels
them in......... lols
> StuckInTheSixties says December 27: *with a tone of sarcasm Yeah ... Right ...
> AussieOi says March 07: Ok then I'll poink her

Picture #11: Once again, asking for my email address. She never, of course, answered me here in Wireclub

Picture #12: Yep. Yet another one of these come-ons. They ALWAYS want my email address.

> Geoff says January 09: I've had a few of these. And...seriously? Would anyone actually fall for that?
> StuckInTheSixties says January 09: I think someone must fall for it, Geoff, else they wouldn't be doing this. It's like fishing. Lots of casting the bait out there, and once in a while, you get a fish on the line. The ultimate goal is, of course, the acquisition of the credit card or banking information. Not ... gonna ... happen.
> _Safira_ says January 15: Poor Biff, I noticed he hasn't gotten any of these..he must be getting jealous
> StuckInTheSixties says January 15: Haven't spoken with Biff for a while, but I'm sure he gets plenty of something-or-other.

> LittleAntonov says January 16: oh come on!!! now my comment doesnt make sense or dollars!!!
> StuckInTheSixties says January 16: Okay. I'll put it into proper context for the readers. When I posted the picture, my original caption read: "Leaning on me doesn't work." But as Ant implied, "leaning" on someone can be construed in more than one way. Hence, the change of caption. There. Satisfied?
> LittleAntonov says January 16: I'm not "unsatisfied"

Picture #25: Modified Mods - Note: nothing here is meant in any way to imply anything other than that I was bored

> click_here says January 10: Wonderfully clever. Genuine laughter. Thank you.
> StuckInTheSixties says January 10: Self assessment: Truly stupid.
> tcg eh! says January 10: nice knowing you eh...re-add me when you return...hahahaha
> SABLES says January 10: pmpl tcg
> StuckInTheSixties says January 10: tcg, I've skewered administration WAY worse than this, and I'm pretty continual about it. Either they aren't aware, or they understand that I'm just goofing off and have no animousity. The hardest I've ever pushed the envelope was my imaginary personal message conversation with Rod where he explained what happened when Wireclub went offline a bit over a year ago. His imaginary explanation was that him Braden was drunk, and when having s3x with one of the hookers with him, he knocked Rod's computer off the desk, and the whole system went down.

> StolenHeart says January 10: lol, u werent kidding
> StuckInTheSixties says January 10: No, I wasn't ... Wait ... Yes, I was. I mean, yes, I am. I'm kidding. I'm just kidding!

> StuckInTheSixties says January 10: Hahahaha! Nah, that wasn't offensive. Was it?
> LittleAntonov says January 10: *shrugs*
> StuckInTheSixties says January 10: Behave, or I'll switch heads with you and your pooch!
> MercuryDragon says February 16: Lmao!
> StuckInTheSixties says February 16: I'm currently working on the newer version of this picture that has Veronica in it. Most of the victims will be portrayed essentially the same way, though.

> StolenHeart says December 18: LMAO, u even put him in the drivers seat
> StuckInTheSixties says December 19: Rod's head is so tiny it's hard to tell it's actually him.
