Ms Pippins:
It is beautiful. I seriously could not cross that bridge though.

StuckInTheSixties:

It's just a BRIDGE! Over one of the main north-south routes in California!

If you were to detour around it, you'd have to go perhaps thirty miles or so on small mountain roads.

Karma:
It looks more like a painting than a photograph

StuckInTheSixties:
It does, doesn't it? I originally found some other photo shot from this same vantage, and when I searched the image for the the photographer, the result included a number of other photos, basically, the same picture taken from the same spot, with varying aspects such as lighting, clouds, etc.

I wound up abandoning the first picture, the one I searched, and using this one instead.

jenine59:
Love this pic...

StuckInTheSixties:
It's a lovely place. I've been there many times. I've camped on that little strip of beach in the picture.

ƬЄЄƇЄღ:
that is truly stunning.. the amazing landscape meeting the ocean right down to the flowers on the hill.. truly magnificent photography..

StuckInTheSixties:
This part of California's coast is called "Big Sur." It's one of the best, and most famous, drives in all of the United States. The entire Pacific Coast Highway is beautiful. There's three sections of it that are really impressive, but the Big Sur stretch is the best. I've driven it many times. When I was young I used to hitchhike up and down this road all the time, from the Bay Area up here north of San Francisco down to San Diego.

Other than Bixby Bridge being in this picture, enhancing it, this photo could have been shot at almost any spot along this 125 miles/200 kilometer stretch of California Highway 1. There are other parts where the road is perched MUCH further up above the sea, where the views up and down the coastline just go on forever. Anyone coming to California really should plan this drive into their agenda.

Just Google "Big Sur" and an endless supply of stunning photos will result.
