THE ACE ROCK BAND – SANTANA

1967,The bay of San Francisco gave birth to the ACE ROCK BAND - SANTANA as the Carlos Santana's Blues band with the help of Tom Fraser. Santana, particularly due to its combination of Latin percussion is the primary exponent of Latin-tinged rock.
With the advent of their song SOUL SACRIFICE which was performed at Woodstock festival in 1969 the ACE ROCK BAND - SANTANA, pioneering Rock, Salsa and Jazz fusion became cynosure to other acts on the bill. The group Santana was the last major act to be manifested from the San Francisco music scenario of the 1960s ,thereafter the musical direction shifted to a more contemplative and jazzy style.
The heart of the ACE ROCK BAND - SANTANA, Carlos Augusto Alves Santana native of Mexico learnt to play the violin at age of five and guitar at age of eight. The band's sound featured his melodic, heart throbbing, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin and African rhythms featuring the percussion instruments like timbales and congas not too common to be heard in rock music.
The ACE ROCK BAND - SANTANA got a fortunate exposure initially through Woodstock festival which resulted to making their premier, eponymous album a hit of its time, there followed in the next two years the ACE ROCK BAND SANTANA'S third and fourth release ABRAXA and SANATANAIII which marked the legacy of their success saga. Their debut album commenced the trajectory of their success as it peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard 200 pop chart with single "Evil Ways" being a top 10 single in the US.
ABRAXAS, released in September 1970, flashed at number 1 on the US Billboard 200 and the Australian Kent Road Report. The album also featured the super hit magical single "Black Magic Woman", which fetched number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
From January to July 1971, Santana worked towards its third success story. The album was named Santana III. Released in September 1971, only to top the US bill board yet again and became the band's zenith popularity. This was the last album to feature the classic Woodstock era line-up of the ace rock band Santana. There followed a lot of lineup changes before the release of their fourth album Caravanserai resulting into being 8th at U.S bill board without any hit single.
The ACE ROCK BAND - SANTANA has been a proud achiever of a total of eight Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards which were all awarded in 2000s. Carlos also won two Grammy Awards as a solo artist in 1989 and 2003.
